Minister Of The Environment Claims That Decision On Petrobras Request To Explore Oil In The Called Foz Do Amazonas Depends On Technical Conclusion.
Who would have thought that Petrobras’ saga to explore oil in the called Foz do Amazonas would be close to a conclusion? Indeed, the Minister of Environment, Marina Silva, stated this Monday (30) that the decision on the license request will be made as soon as the technical area completes its analysis.
“Licensing is a technical process. The technical area has its time to perform the analysis, and at the right time, they make their statements based on technical grounds”, said Marina, after attending a parallel G20 event on finance in environmental sustainability.
Petrobras Has Been Awaiting Since 2023 To Explore Oil In The Region
Petrobras has been awaiting, since 2023, the license from the Environmental Agency (Ibama) to explore oil in the area near Amapá, part of the so-called Equatorial Margin. After an initial denial from the environmental agency, the oil company appealed, but has not yet received a new decision.

Petrobras completes 1,300 hours of work and 15 km of subsea lines to connect the Búzios 90 well to the P-79 — the platform is ready to produce 180,000 barrels per day and is just awaiting ANP approval.

Iran declares the Strait of Hormuz completely open this Friday, and the price of oil plummets nearly 10% in a few hours — the largest drop since the beginning of the conflict.

While the world was paying more for fuel, the 100 largest oil companies on the planet raked in an extra $23 billion in just 30 days of blockage in the Strait of Hormuz.
“This is how it happens in a republican government. What works are the institutions and technical opinions, based on environmental impact studies”, added the minister, reinforcing that the analysis on the exploration of oil in the called Foz do Amazonas follows rigorous criteria.
Optimism Regarding The Approval Of The License For Petrobras
Last week, the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, expressed optimism regarding the approval of the license for Petrobras by the end of this year. Expectations are high, but the final decision will depend on the technical opinions that are being carefully evaluated.
Meanwhile, Petrobras continues to wait, keeping an eye on the opportunities that oil exploration in the called Foz do Amazonas may bring. It remains to be seen whether the technical conclusion will be favorable and when this saga will have its final chapter.
The future of oil exploration in the called Foz do Amazonas is about to be decided, raising a crucial question: will it be possible to reconcile the economic development that Petrobras seeks with the environmental preservation necessary for this very sensitive region? What do you think?
