Peugeot SUV Is A Strong Contender To Be One Of The Six New Models Produced By Stellantis In Pernambuco, Potentially Debuting The STLA Medium Platform In Brazil Or Using A Familiar Base.
Stellantis announced a plan of R$ 13 billion for its factory in Goiana (PE). The manufacturer promised a vehicle from “a new brand” among future launches. The Peugeot 3008 appears to be the main bet for this novelty, with national production.
Stellantis’ Billion-Dollar Investment And The Mystery Of The “New Brand” In Pernambuco
The Stellantis, owner of brands such as Fiat, Jeep, Citroën, Peugeot, and Ram, revealed an ambitious investment plan. A total of R$ 13 billion will be invested by 2030. Part of this amount is allocated to the production of six new products at the Goiana (PE) complex, starting in 2026. One of these future models will be from “a new brand” for the Pernambuco plant. Currently, the factory assembles the Fiat Toro and Ram Rampage pickups. It also produces the Jeep Renegade, Compass, and Commander.
Peugeot 3008 Emerges As The Main Candidate For Brazilian Production

What will the new product be? The main bet falls on a new generation of the Peugeot 3008. This SUV has previously been sold in Brazil, always imported. Now, it could return with local manufacturing. Recently, prototypes of the new Peugeot 3008 were spotted within the Stellantis unit in Betim (MG), as reported by Autoesporte.

European STLA Medium Or Tropicalized Small Wide 4×4?
There is a discrepancy of information regarding the project for the new national Peugeot 3008. The Auto+ website reported that the model would use the Small Wide 4×4 platform. This base is the same as the current vehicles in Goiana. It would be a local adaptation to extend the architecture’s lifespan. This would justify maintaining this base in the Brazilian Compass, instead of adopting the STLA Medium matrix from the new European Compass.
However, the president of Stellantis in South America, Emanuele Cappellano, was questioned about the R$ 13 billion investment. He confirmed that the plan includes a new platform in Goiana. Cappellano added that the northeastern plant is “prepared to implement more than one platform simultaneously.” Autoesporte understands that the investment value is too high not to include a new architecture. The adoption of the STLA Medium is considered essential for the future of the operation in Pernambuco. Thus, if the Peugeot 3008 is chosen, it should arrive with the STLA Medium platform from the European SUV. It would be the debut of this matrix among Stellantis’ national vehicles.
Estimated Timeline And Hybrid Engine Options For The National Peugeot 3008

The nationalization of the Peugeot 3008 with the STLA Medium platform is expected to occur only at the end of the decade. Possibly, not before 2028. This would already encompass the mid-life facelift of the current generation of the 3008, launched in 2024 in Europe. The strategy would be similar to that of the Peugeot 2008. Its current generation arrived in South America along with the European facelift.
When produced in Brazil, the Peugeot 3008 STLA Medium is expected to have a flex hybrid engine. It will utilize the Bio-Hybrid family. This consists of the 1.3 GSE turbo flex engine in a light hybrid configuration of 48 Volts. This option is called T270 Hybrid e-DCT, with a dual-clutch automated gearbox and six speeds. Another possibility is a plug-in hybrid version, with external charging. In Europe, the third-generation Peugeot 3008 (project P64) measures 4.54 meters in length, 2.74 m in wheelbase, 1.89 m in width, and 1.64 m in height.
Before being nationalized, it is possible that the medium SUV of the French brand will be imported. The version being considered for this prior import is the electric one, the e-3008.
