In the pre-salt layer, in the Santos Basin, Petrobras will allocate the FPSO Carioca – the largest unit in terms of complexity and volume of oil production
The Sépia field, area of pre-salt transfer of rights in the Santos Basin, will start production in August, by Petrobras. The FPSO Carioca, which will be responsible for production, left the Brasfels Shipyard, in Angra dos Reis, heading for the Santos Basin (the platform will be Petrobras' largest, both in terms of production volume and complexity). About the Sépia field, operated by Petrobras, in the Santos Basin
Sépia is one of the pre-salt pre-salt areas in the Santos Basin. On December 17th, the government will tender – for the second time – the excess oil volume for the project, along with the Atapu field. Petrobras has already expressed preemptive rights and will be the operator of the area with at least a 30% stake.
The Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque, has already indicated that the government's expectation is that competition from other companies in the auction will be to work together with Petrobras. In an interview with CNN, Bento says that “No company will enter this auction without Petrobras participating, because Petrobras is already producing in these fields. And it is considered the most qualified oil company to produce in deep waters”.

The FPSO Carioca
The Petrobras unit's production capacity is 180 barrels of oil per day, equivalent to approximately 8% of the company's oil production. FPSO Carioca can also process 6 million m³ of natural gas per day, with a 40-ton process plant for oil and gas treatment and gas and water injection into the reservoirs.
This will be the largest platform in operation in Brazil in terms of complexity and when it reaches peak production, it will also be the largest unit in terms of oil production. owned by modec, the unit is chartered by Petrobras to operate for 21 years in the Sépia field, in the Santos Basin pre-salt. Construction of the FPSO began in 2017 in China and important stages of the platform construction process were carried out in Brazil, with local content. Two modules were built at the Brasfels shipyard, in Angra dos Reis, generating approximately 400 direct jobs.
Petrobras plans to invest US$46,5 billion in oil and gas production in Brazil by 2025. Currently, the company has 21 platforms in operation in the pre-salt layer, which are responsible for 70% of the company's oil production. The FPSO Carioca is one of the 13 new Petrobras platforms that will go into production in the pre-salt from 2021 to 2025.
