Almost Two Million Families Were Excluded From The Social Program Bolsa Família, Revealed The Federal Government This Sunday (04). This Number May Increase, As A New Review Has A Date To Happen.

According To An Update From The Federal Government, Last Year, 1.73 Million “Unipersonal” Families Were Excluded.

According To Data Collected By The Ministry Of Development And Social Assistance, Family And Fight Against Hunger, There Were 5.88 Million Unipersonal Families Among The Beneficiaries Of The Government’s Social Program In December 2022.

With This Cut Made By The Government Of President Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva (PT), The Number Dropped To 4.15 Million At The End Of Last Year.

“Unipersonal Families: Understand The Term”

By Unipersonal Families, It Refers To Those Composed Of Only One Member, Registered In The Single Registry For Federal Government Social Programs (Cadastro Único). Currently, There Are No Restrictions On Them.

However, It Is Important To Highlight That, Under The Rules Of The Bolsa Família, When Classified As Unipersonal, The People Benefited By The Program Can No Longer Share A House With Other Relatives.

In A Statement, Wellington Dias, Minister Of Development And Social Assistance, Family And Fight Against Hunger, Explained That The Government Replaced The “Single Aid” With The Bolsa Família, Expanding The Average Number Of People Per Benefit.

“We Are Supporting More Children, And The Overall Average Benefit Increased To R$ 681 (…). So, A Family With A Couple And Three Children Up To 6 Years Old Receives An Aid Of R$ 1,160. Why? There Are Five People Receiving R$ 142 Each And An Additional R$ 450 For The Three Children,” Explained The Minister.

“New Review Of The Bolsa Família Has A Date”

According To The Government, A New Verification Is Expected To Happen In The Coming Months. This Review Started Last Year When The Current Executive Management Informed That It Had Identified Signs Of Irregularities In 2.5 Million Beneficiaries Of The Bolsa Família.

According To The Ministry Of Development And Social Assistance, These “Unipersonal Arrangements Increased Unusually And Are Linked To The Demographic Dynamics Of Brazilian Families Between The End Of 2021 And The Last Months Of 2022.”

This Growth Happened In The Last Years Of The Administration Of Former President Jair Bolsonaro. At The Time, The Bolsa Família Was Still Called Auxílio Brasil. Initially, The Average Benefit Was R$ 405, But It Became R$ 600 In 2022.

“New Documents Required”

Last Year, To Conduct A More Accurate Check, The Federal Government Published A Regulation Changing The Documents That Must Be Presented By Families.

At That Time, Some Requests For Adjustments Or Updates To Registrations Became Routine For The Continuation Of The Program For Unipersonal Families.

This Sunday, The Ministry Of Development And Social Assistance, Family And Fight Against Hunger Explained That, “In Addition To Presenting The Mandatory Documents Common To All Types Of Family Composition, They Must Sign A Statement Of Responsibility, Committing To The Truthfulness Of The Information Provided To The Cadastro Único.”

Finally, The Ministry Reports That The Review Of The Bolsa Família Registry Will Also Seek To Update Information About The Income Of People Requesting The Benefit, Focusing On Checking Whether They Still Meet The Program’s Social Criteria.
