Four Gold Bars Totaling 1,741 Grams and Valued at R$ 1.104 Million Are Seized in Operation on BR-401
The seizure of four gold bars totaling 1,741 grams and valued at R$ 1.104 million on the BR-401 in Roraima drew attention due to the size and value of the cargo. The operation, carried out by the Federal Revenue in conjunction with the Military Police, reinforces indications that land routes in the region are being used to transport high-value minerals without any official registration.
According to information released by FolhaBV, the incident occurred in Bonfim, a municipality bordering Guyana.
The episode reignites the debate about the vulnerability of Brazilian borders and the risks of gold smuggling, an activity that generates millions in revenue and is directly linked to environmental and financial crimes.

How the Seizure Occurred
The suspect, identified as R.L.S., 29 years old, was driving a white Onix when he was approached by officers from the 5th Independent Company of Border Policing (5th CIPMFRON).
During the inspection, he presented his driver’s license but did not carry the required vehicle documents.
When questioned, he claimed that the car belonged to a man named “Jeferson,” but checks revealed that the vehicle was registered in someone else’s name.
Given the contradictions, the agents decided to conduct detailed searches and found the gold bars hidden inside the vehicle.
Suspicion of Smuggling and International Route
In his preliminary testimony, R.L.S. said he was from Pará and had arrived in Roraima the day before, but could not explain the origin of the gold.
The case has been forwarded to the Federal Police, which will investigate possible links to illegal mining and smuggling networks.
The seizure reinforces the perception that Roraima has become a strategic route for the clandestine transport of gold.
The proximity to Guyana facilitates the exit of the metal abroad, often without official registration, which creates opportunities for money laundering schemes and illegal exports.
Economic Impact and Associated Risks
The value of the seized cargo, exceeding R$ 1.1 million, illustrates the economic weight of this type of criminal activity.
Gold is one of the most sought-after minerals by criminal organizations, not only because of its high market value but also due to the ease of concealment and resale in international markets.
Beyond the financial impact, experts emphasize that illegal extraction is associated with environmental degradation in forested and indigenous areas, exacerbating socio-environmental conflicts.
It is estimated that billions of reais circulate annually in such activities, without any return to public coffers.
Intensified Inspection on BR-401
BR-401, which connects Boa Vista to the municipality of Bonfim and the border with Guyana, is already considered one of the main routes for transporting goods in the region.
Inspection operations have been intensified precisely because it is a strategic corridor for gold smuggling.
Without interceptions like the one last Saturday, million-dollar loads could cross the border without any legal control, strengthening criminal networks involved in mining and the clandestine trade of minerals.
The Next Step in the Investigation
Now, it will be up to the Federal Police to deepen the investigations to uncover where the gold bars came from, who is behind the transportation, and the extent of the criminal network involved.
The outcome of the investigation may reveal not only the origin of the mineral but also connections with clandestine mines and international laundering routes.
And you, do you believe that the intensification of inspections on BR-401 is sufficient to curb the smuggling of gold bars? Or do you think the problem lies at the source, with the advance of illegal mining?

O garimpo só é legal quando é do governo, um pobre se achar ouro e a PF parar é preso na hora. Agora o que acha a atenção é que muitos políticos estão desviando verbas por todo os pais, e nada é feito. Pra político a lei não funciona.
