Queiroz Galvão Hired the Drillship Laguna Star to Drill a Third Well of the Early Production System in Brazil
Queiroz Galvão Exploration and Production S.A signed service contracts for chartering and drilling with Podocarpus C.V. and Constellation Oil Services S.A on September 7, 2018, for well drilling in the Atlanta field. Drilling is scheduled for the first quarter of 2019, QGEP said in a statement on Monday. The rig may also be allocated for intervention activities to replace damaged submersible pumps in the two producing wells, aiming to increase the field’s production.
The Atlanta Field
Located in Block BS-4 in the Santos Basin, Atlanta is a post-salt oil field situated 185 kilometers from the city of Rio de Janeiro, in water depth of approximately 1,500 meters. The estimated timeline for drilling the third well is approximately 90 days, which may be renewed for an additional 90 days for intervention activities in the two existing producing wells. The total amount estimated and approved in both contracts is up to US $ 26 million. QGEP began oil production from its offshore Atlanta field using the initial production system in the form of the Petrojalr 1 FPSO in May 2018.

Current Situation in the Atlanta Field
Due to the malfunction of the well pumps, immediately after startup, the seabed pumps were activated, reducing the previously estimated production levels. As a result, QGEP revised its average daily production estimate for the field in August to 13,000 barrels per day from the two producing wells, with a potential variation of 10%, either higher or lower when the average daily production for the period is verified. When the field started production, the company expected that production would reach around 20,000 barrels of oil per day in the second quarter of 2018. The new estimate will remain in effect until the start of production of the third well to be drilled with the Laguna Star rig. The production from the third well is scheduled for the second quarter of 2019.
