Applications Open at IFRS for Free Qualification Courses with Scholarships of Up to R$ 858! Opportunity for Those Seeking Education and Income.
The Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio Grande do Sul (IFRS) is currently with applications open for two free professional qualification courses, which also offer scholarships to participants. These courses, classified as Initial and Continuing Education (FIC), are aimed at individuals who have completed Elementary School I (from 1st to 5th grade).
In total, 70 spots are available, with 35 for the “General Services Assistant” course in Porto Alegre, and another 35 for the “Industrial Painter” course in Alvorada. The spots are preferably for residents of Porto Alegre, Alvorada, Canoas, and Esteio.
Who Can Participate in the Free Courses?
Priority for the spots will be given to individuals in situations of socioeconomic vulnerability, who have low income and are unemployed, with a preference for minority groups, such as women; people with disabilities; black individuals; brown individuals; transgender people; travestis; indigenous people; quilombolas; and refugees.

The selected participants will be entitled to receive a scholarship of R$ 660 per month during the duration of the course. For women with children up to 11 years old, the scholarship will be R$ 858 per month.
About the Free Courses at the Federal Institute
General Services Assistant
In the General Services Assistant course, participants will learn about workplace safety and the environment, 5S concepts and appropriate cleaning practices, as well as standard operating procedures for cleaning facilities and equipment. Additionally, there will be basic notions of warehousing, logistics, and minor maintenance repairs.
Upon completion of the course, the student will be qualified to perform general cleaning and maintenance services, as well as delivery, receiving, making, and customer service activities.
The Porto Alegre class will have classes in the afternoon, from Monday to Friday, with an approximate duration of four months and a total workload of 174 hours. The course will begin on October 7 at IFRS – Campus Porto Alegre, located at Rua Coronel Vicente, 281, in the Historical Center of the city.
Industrial Painter
The Industrial Painter course will offer knowledge about health, safety, and the environment, in addition to surface preparation and industrial painting techniques. The student will be trained to work in industrial painting activities on pipelines and equipment, using hand tools and machines. This will allow them to work in sectors such as the oil and gas industry, shipbuilding, and manufacturing.
The classes for the Alvorada class will be held in the afternoon, from Monday to Thursday. The course has an approximate duration of four months, with a total workload of 252 hours. The start is scheduled for October 7, and activities will be held at IFRS – Campus Alvorada, at Rua Professor Darcy Ribeiro, 121, in the Campos Verdes neighborhood.
Registration
Registration can be made for free through the website autonomiaerenda.com.br until September 16. The candidate will need to fill out an electronic form with the requested information. For those who prefer, there is the option to register in person on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, from 1 PM to 5 PM, at IFRS campuses in Alvorada or Porto Alegre.
The selection will be conducted through a public lottery among the applicants, and the results will be announced on September 23.
