After Resuming Petrobras Bids and Winning the Construction of the FPSO Mero, SBM Has a New Victory, Case in Which It Was the Defendant Is Closed

SBM Offshore achieved another important victory in Brazil. After going through tough times due to acts of impropriety, the company was notified yesterday (10/09) that the court formally closed the case brought by the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) in 2017.
This was the second victory for the company after its involvement in corruption scandals. In June, SBM was announced as the winner of the charter and construction contract for the FPSO Mero 2 for the pre-salt.

The acts of corruption were investigated by the MPF during the investigations into the contracts that the company signed with Petrobras for the chartering of the FPSO 2, FPSO Espadarte/Anchieta, FPSO Brasil, FPSO Marlim Sul, FPSO Capixaba, FPSO P-57, monobuoy PRA-1, and Turret P53.

A New Era

The auction won by SBM Offshore in June, after having been prevented from entering new contracts for years, relates to the second definitive production system of the important Mero field in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin.

The company secured a contract with Petrobras for chartering and operation that involves the construction of a gigantic FPSO.
The floating production storage and offloading unit will be connected to up to 16 wells and will have the capacity to process up to 180,000 barrels of oil per day and 12 million m³/day of gas. Production is expected to start in 2022.

It is hoped that the court’s decision will indeed allow SBM Offshore to begin a new era, as the company itself defined in its new compliance rules (conformity against acts of corruption).
