The New Federal Program Accelerates Surgeries and Consultations in SUS Using Technology, Boosting Hospital Productivity and Expanding Access in Six Specialties.

Technological Advancement in SUS with Support from the Private Network

An important advancement in public health management was announced in March 2025 by the Federal Government. This is the program “Now There Are Specialists”, which accredits private, philanthropic hospitals and clinics to serve SUS patients.

The proposal, therefore, encompasses six medical specialties — oncology, gynecology, cardiology, orthopedics, ophthalmology, and otolaryngology — and aims to reduce waiting times and expedite surgeries.

The program’s impact, consequently, is expected to be significant. It combines cutting-edge technology such as the “Surgical Room Setup Kit” with strict protocols, promising results that will modernize the dynamics of surgical centers in Brazil.

Technology Optimizes Time and Reduces Waste in Surgical Rooms

The innovation comes, above all, from the company based in Curitiba, ztrax, which developed the “Surgical Room Setup Kit”.

According to Marcelo Lonzetti, director of the company and RTLS specialist, hospitals can, with the correct use of this technology, increase surgical room productivity by up to 45%.

With the right technology, it is possible, moreover, to improve the efficiency of the rooms without compromising Anvisa’s requirements,” says Lonzetti.

The kit, in turn, monitors cleaning times, generates automatic alerts about room availability, and additionally informs family members about the progress of surgeries.

Furthermore, it allows tracking the time each doctor takes between room release and the start of the surgical procedure, helping to eliminate unnecessary time losses.

Direct Impacts on Hospital Management

The expectation is that the program and the use of the kit will bring concrete and measurable benefits:

  • Reduction of idle time in surgical rooms
  • More efficient control of cleaning routines, strictly adhering to Anvisa’s standards
  • Agility in patient flow
  • Increase in the number of surgeries performed
  • Generation of additional revenue for accredited hospitals

According to Lonzetti, “a room that should be cleaned in 10 minutes but takes 5 or 15 indicates that there are problems in the process. Technology thus ensures this control.”

Additionally, he states, “hospitals need to deliver solid numbers and maintain technical and sanitary excellence without a doubt.”

Regulation and Timeline of the Program

The program was established through a Provisional Measure issued in March 2025.

In April, therefore, the process of accreditation of hospitals and clinics began. In May 2025, the “Surgical Room Setup Kit” was officially presented as a technological solution for the project.

Thus, the first units began to operate under the new system in June 2025.

Until now, however, there is no deadline for the adherence of private institutions, but the expectation is that the implementation continues, indeed, at an accelerated pace during the second half of 2025.

Social and Economic Gains

In addition to increasing the population’s access to the healthcare system, the program helps to balance public accounts.

Participating hospitals can, therefore, provide services in exchange for debt relief or generating new revenue.

On the other hand, SUS patients benefit directly from the reduction of waiting lines and a more agile and modern service.

As highlighted by the Ministry of Health, the partnership between the public and private sectors aims not only to resolve immediate bottlenecks but also to modernize and make healthcare delivery in Brazil more sustainable.

Quality Guarantee and Environmental Responsibility

The entire operation of the program follows, above all, the protocols of Anvisa, ensuring safety for patients and professionals.

Furthermore, the technologies and processes used undergo a rigorous editorial and technical control, with constant reviews.

Future Perspectives for the Brazilian Healthcare System

Hospital and technology sector specialists see “Now There Are Specialists” as an opportunity, without a doubt, for structural transformation.

The utilization of technologies such as the “Surgical Room Setup Kit” can profoundly redefine surgical productivity in the country.

The ability to combine technology, governance, and efficiency will surely be decisive for the program’s success.

Meanwhile, nationwide implementation will be an important test for the healthcare sector, requiring complete integration between public and private spheres.

What do you believe the program should prioritize: rapidly expand nationwide or consolidate a high-quality and efficient operation in already accredited units? Share your thoughts!
