Father and Son Find Rare Treasure: 16th Century Coins Valued at Over US$ 120,000 in Poland
Imagine going out for a simple exploration expedition and, while digging the ground, discovering a treasure of immeasurable value. That’s exactly what happened to Sławomir and Szymon Milewscy, a father and son duo from the Historical Association and Triglav Research, who made an impressive discovery near Pomiechówek, Poland.
During an exploration conducted by the Polish Treasure Hunters Association “Husaria”, they unearthed 17 rare coins, valued at over $ 120,000. It turned out that the mission’s objective was to find an ancient Roman trade route, but fate had other plans!

The Treasure Found
These coins, dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, not only have a high material value but also serve as a window into Europe’s turbulent past.

Who is the owner of the 10,000 m² island in Bahia valued at R$ 20 million, which draws attention with a private beach, pool, sauna, court, area for shows, and even a helipad?

For 160 million years, scientists searched for the first animal on Earth and found no trace — until a 550-million-year-old fossil revealed that it was too soft to leave a mark.

One thousand-ton stones were stacked with millimeter precision thousands of years ago in Lebanon, and to this day, no engineer in the world can explain how an ancient civilization did this without modern technology.
Among the finds were examples from Saxony, Brandenburg, and Spanish Netherlands, which hearken back to the Thirty Years’ War period.
Among them, a thaler of Sigismund III Vasa, minted in Toruń, Poland, caught attention, as a similar one was recently auctioned for approximately $ 20,000.

The Historical Importance of the Discovery
The discovery was so significant that archaeologist Piotr Duda described it as one of the greatest ever made in Poland, especially in the Mazovia region.
He commented on the historical impact of the coins, highlighting that deposits from this period are rare. “In recent years, deposits of coins from various periods have been found, but not from the 16th and 17th centuries. The historical value is indescribable,” said Duda.
The coins belong to a tumultuous period in European history, marked by the Thirty Years’ War and the struggle between powers such as Poland, Saxony, and the Netherlands.
An interesting theory, raised by Duda, suggests that the treasure might have been buried by someone who participated in the Battle of Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki in 1655, when the Swedes faced Polish forces.
Another possibility is that a wealthy merchant hid their riches in an attempt to examine them from looters.

The Mystery Behind the Treasure
The value of the treasure is impressive, but perhaps the most fascinating aspect of this story is the mystery that still surrounds the origin of the coins. Why were they buried there? Who is hiding? What happened to the person who left them behind?
The Future of the Coins
The discovery of the rare coins will now be detailed to the Conservator of Monuments of the Mazovia Voivodeship, but many are advocating for the treasure to be displayed to the public.
The Triglav Association, for example, proposed that the coins be exhibited in museums such as the September Campaign Museum or the Modlin Fortress Museum, so everyone could appreciate their fascinating history.
This story is not just about a treasure found, but also about the importance of preserving history and the memory of past events.
