Brazil is about to revolutionize rail transport with investments of R$100 billion. The National Railway Plan includes major projects such as Transnordestina and the East-West Corridor, aiming to modernize logistics and strengthen the economy.
The promise of a more connected and efficient Brazil is about to become a reality. After decades of neglect and delays, the national railway network is preparing for a historic leap forward.
Behind the scenes, an ambitious project already has a date to be revealed and promises to transform the transport sector in the country. But will it finally happen? we will have more trains assets crisscrossing our landscapes?
Last Thursday (23), the Minister of Transport, Renan Filho, revealed in an interview with the program Good morning, Minister that the federal government will present, in the first days of February, a robust portfolio of projects aimed at railway development.

- Air conditioning: discover the ideal temperature to save energy and maintain comfort in the heat
- Elon Musk's Starlink grows rapidly and reaches more than 50% of the national satellite internet market
- Home office worker falls from chair and will receive R$30 from the company for it in Brazil
โWe will publicize the projects, discuss them with the market and with investors,โ said the minister. According to him, the strategy is to remove cargo from highways and transfer it to railways, reducing logistical conflicts and transportation costs.
The details of the National Railway Plan
The plan, called the National Railway Plan, foresees five major projects to modernize and expand the Brazilian railway network.
With an estimated investment of up to R$100 billion in private concessions, the project encompasses almost a thousand kilometers of new railways.
These projects are essential to decongest the current system and bring greater efficiency to the transportation of goods.
Renan Filho explained that the plan will present an organized agenda for concession auctions, offering transparency and predictability to investors.
โThe project pipeline will be clearly disclosed, so that everyone knows what the execution schedule will be,โ explained the minister.
Main planned works
Among the highlights of the plan, some of the works are already attracting attention:
East-West Corridor (Bahia): One of the largest initiatives, connecting the region over 2.400 km.
Extension of the North-South Railway: Strategic connection between Maranhรฃo and Parรก, totaling 477 km of new tracks.
Southwest Railway Ring: This project will connect Espรญrito Santo to Rio de Janeiro over 300 km.
Transnordestina: Works in progress, with Phase I expected to be completed by 2027, connecting the states of Piauรญ and Cearรก to the port of Pecรฉm, in Cearรก.
Furthermore, the construction of Transnordestina has the support of the Northeast Development Fund (FDNE), which released a contribution of R$400 million at the beginning of January 2025.
The 1.206 km project passes through 53 municipalities in the Northeast and will play a crucial role in transporting production from strategic sectors such as metallurgy and steelmaking.
Impact on the mineral and steel sector
The new railway investment does not come in isolation. The plan is in line with the New Growth Acceleration Program (PAC), which aims to raise up to R$100,2 billion for the mineral sector by 2028.
Steel companies have already shown interest in taking advantage of the new railways to speed up the transportation of mineral resources.
The logistical integration provided by railways will have a direct impact on the competitiveness of Brazilian products in domestic and foreign markets.
By using strategic ports such as Pecรฉm, Brazil should gain strength in fundamental sectors of the economy.
The challenge of modernization
Despite the optimism, the modernization of rail network faces logistical and financial challenges.
Brazil has a history of delays in infrastructure projects and bottlenecks involving bureaucracy and difficulties in raising funds.
Still, experts see the plan as a unique opportunity to finally unlock the country's railway potential.
Conclusion: a new era for Brazilian rails
With an ambitious schedule and substantial resources, the federal government is betting on the rebirth of railways as a solution for more efficient and sustainable transport.
The strategy not only promises to relieve highways, but also revive the industrial sector, reduce logistics costs and boost Brazilian competitiveness.

Good morning, it would be great to see trains running in all of our states, as public transport is no longer able to transport our people. With trains running again, travel will be easier. I am in favor, as in other countries trains are the main means of transport. I would really like to have them back.
RS is not in the railroad plans.
70% of this amount will end up in the pockets of ****!!!
