Redesigned look and high-level display

The Sony Xperia 1 VIII adopts a new square-shaped camera module on the back, housing three sensors and the LED flash. The set is available in four color options: black, white, gold, and red.

On the front, the device maintains the selfie camera positioned at the top of the screen — without resorting to cutouts or notches on the display, a choice that preserves the visual continuity of the screen.

The display is a 6.5-inch LTPO OLED, with FHD+ resolution, 19.5:9 aspect ratio, and a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. Protection is ensured by Gorilla Glass Victus 2, one of the most resistant glasses currently available on the market.

Sony Xperia 1 VIII: performance and storage

The device runs with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, accompanied by up to 16 GB of RAM (LPDDR5X standard) and internal storage options of 256 GB, 512 GB, or 1 TB (UFS 4.1 standard).

Additionally, the Xperia 1 VIII supports memory expansion via MicroSD card up to 2 TB — something increasingly uncommon in today’s premium smartphones.

Cameras: three 48 MP sensors and a focus on low light

The camera area is one of the main attractions of the new Sony Xperia 1 VIII. All three rear lenses are equipped with 48-megapixel sensors, covering different focal lengths:

  • Main lens (24 mm): 48 MP sensor with a size of 1/1.35″, with optical image stabilization (OIS);
  • Ultrawide (16 mm): 48 MP sensor for wide-angle photos;
  • Telephoto (70 mm / 3x zoom): 48 MP sensor with 1/1.56 inch, replacing the previous continuous zoom system with a physically larger sensor.

According to Sony, the new telephoto sensor was specifically designed to capture more details and deliver better quality photos in low-light environments. The company also highlights that all three lenses use multi-frame RAW processing — a technique that expands the dynamic range of images and reduces noise, bringing the result closer to photos taken with professional full-frame sensor cameras.

The front camera features a 12 MP sensor for selfies and video calls.

Battery, system, and software durability of the Sony Xperia 1 VIII

The Sony Xperia 1 VIII is equipped with a 5,000 mAh battery, compatible with 30W wired fast charging. The device comes out of the box with Android 16 and Sony guarantees:

  • 4 major Android system updates;
  • 6 years of security updates.

Therefore, the device’s support cycle extends until at least 2031, which is a significant advantage for those seeking longevity in their investment.
