The Federal University of Maranhão (UFMA) announced the opening of registrations for the Extension Course in Special Education from the Perspective of Inclusive Education, which will be conducted 100% remotely and offered free of charge through the Open University of Brazil Program (UAB).
The course offers 3,253 spots, has a duration of 120 hours, and aims to train teachers and basic education professionals to promote inclusive pedagogical practices and meet the individual and collective needs of students.
Inside the Inclusive Education Course at UFMA
The course, officially titled Improvement Course in Special Education from the Perspective of Inclusive Education, will be divided into four modules.
In addition to the classes, participants will need to prepare a final project, totaling 120 hours of coursework.
The main goal is to train teachers to inclusively attend to students with different educational needs in regular classrooms.
This includes training directors, coordinators, and pedagogical advisors who can effectively and practically implement inclusion public policies.
According to public notice no. 25/2024/FUMA/OEAUX/STED/UFMA, the course will be based on the Collaborative Learning Virtual Environment (AVACAPES), which will provide study materials and interactive tools.
Who Can Participate?
The course is primarily aimed at professionals in basic education who already work in public and private schools, but it also accepts directors, pedagogical coordinators, and other interested individuals who meet the criteria outlined in the public notice.
The 3,253 spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, without a selection process. If the spots are filled quickly, excess candidates will form a waiting list.
Tie-Breaking Criteria: In cases of simultaneous registrations, priority will be given to the older candidate, as established by Law No. 10,741 of 2003.
Impacts on Inclusive Education
UFMA’s initiative promises not only to train professionals but also to transform the Brazilian school environment.
According to experts, continuous training in inclusion is essential to face the challenges of an increasingly diverse society that demands equality of opportunities.
“Courses like this have the potential to revolutionize the educational system, providing teachers with practical and theoretical tools to include all students, regardless of their conditions,” stated a representative from the UAB Program.
Additionally, offering a free and online course ensures that knowledge reaches more people, including those who face difficulties accessing in-person training.
Registrations Open in December
Registrations will be open from December 5, 2024, to January 3, 2025. Interested individuals should visit the official program website (http://seletivos.dted.ufma.br/) to complete the form.
