Petrocity Power Generation Plans Gas Thermal Plant in São Mateus, Espírito Santo. Investments Will Be US$ 1.2 Billion
In the municipality of São Mateus, Espírito Santo, Petrocity Power Generation intends to install a regasification unit, a thermal power plant, and a natural gas pipeline. The expectation is that US$ 1.2 billion will be invested and it is projected to be auctioned in the 1st quarter of 2021. The capacity of the thermal power plant will be 1.8 GW.

Three potential supply methods are being studied: LNG carrier, Cacimbas-Catu Pipeline (Gascac), or a subsea route connected to the Campos pre-salt. Negotiations are still ongoing, with expected completion in the 2nd quarter of 2020.

The company is formed by Badin Energia (75%) and Petrocity Portos (25%). The thermal plant is part of the São Mateus Port Center, from Petrocity Portos (in the licensing phase with Ibama).
Petrocity Portos started its activities in 2013, formed by a group of executives from the finance and logistics sectors. According to the company’s website, it is a conceptual matrix for smart cargo integration and movement located in the northern region of Espírito Santo state.
It is the only port in the Southeast strategically located within the coverage area of Sudene, where both national and foreign companies established and operating there can enjoy tax incentives and benefits.
Additionally, aside from the UTE, the port of São Mateus is planning four solar power plants, three of which will have a capacity of 5 MW and one with 1 MW. All are still in the licensing process.
