The maritime electrical professional should generally have experience in troubleshooting and repairing electrical equipment and the ability to perform the installation of layouts and electrical equipment. Knowledge of electrical theory, maritime wiring practice, and the ability to read color codes of cables and wires for precise positioning and necessary connections.

Must be able to read blueprints, schematic diagrams, and use electrical testing equipment, manual tools, and power tools. Must be capable of working at heights, in confined spaces. Must understand written and verbal instructions and listen to warning signals, read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations, and warnings.
