The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro conducted, on Friday (9), a forensic examination at Ipanema Beach, located in the South Zone of the capital of Rio, after the appearance of stains of a dark substance on the sand strip.
In light of the occurrence, teams from the Environmental Protection Police Station (DPMA) and forensic experts from the Civil Police were mobilized to inspect the area. Additionally, samples of the substance were collected for tests that should confirm its composition and, if possible, determine its origin.
Previously, the material, which has characteristics similar to oil or tar, had already been reported to the competent authorities. Therefore, the case began to be officially investigated.

During the operation, the experts conducted a technical inspection on the sand strip and collected samples of the material found.

The head delegate of the Environmental Protection Police Station (DPMA), Josy Lima, stated that only after the completion of the forensic tests will it be possible to confirm the nature of the substance found.
Only after this step, will it be possible to define the next steps of the investigation.
