New Uber Feature Allows Female Passengers to Choose Female Drivers for Rides via the App, Enhancing Safety and Expanding the Female Presence on the Platform, Initially Available in Seven Brazilian Cities in Pilot Format
According to information from Tecmundo, Uber announced on Tuesday (28) the launch of a new feature aimed at the safety and autonomy of passengers. From now on, users will be able to choose to request rides exclusively with female drivers.
The feature, which is debuting in a pilot format, will operate in seven cities: Piracicaba, Uberlândia, Curitiba, Campinas, São José dos Campos, Ribeirão Preto, and Campo Grande.
The company states that the initiative already exists in countries such as the United States and Saudi Arabia and is coming to Brazil gradually.

According to Uber, the goal is to enhance the sense of safety during rides and strengthen the female presence in the app, both behind the wheel and in the back seat.
Three Options Available to Users
The new feature offers three modalities. The first is Reserve Women Drivers, within the Uber Reserve option, which allows rides to be scheduled up to 30 minutes in advance.
In this option, female passengers can select “Women Drivers” to ensure that the ride is conducted by a female driver.
The second is Women’s Preference, which can be activated in “Profile > Trip Preferences.” With it, the app prioritizes female drivers for rides via Uber X. If there is no immediate availability, the request is redirected to the nearest driver.
Finally, the Women Drivers option, still exclusive to Piracicaba, allows users to request an immediate ride with a female driver.
If there is no quick availability, the user can choose to wait or proceed with another driver.
Safety and Female Growth on the Platform
With this update, Uber claims that it “completes the cycle” initiated in 2019 with U-Elas, a modality that already allows female drivers to receive only requests from female passengers.
The company also reported that the number of female drivers has grown by 160% in recent years, now representing about 8% of the total drivers on the platform. The plan is to continue encouraging this expansion.
During the launch event, held in São Paulo, Uber’s General Director in Brazil, Silvia Penna, emphasized the company’s ongoing commitment to safety.
“We know that safety is a job that never ends, but we will continue to invest in protection tools and educational content for our partners and users,” she stated.
