The Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) is a national research and development institution in biological sciences, linked to the Ministry of Health. Currently, the foundation is offering more than 50 completely free courses, both distance and on-site, covering various areas such as IT, health, education, among others. Founded in 1900 by the renowned sanitation physician Oswaldo Cruz, Fiocruz is the most important science and technology institution in health in Latin America. Thus, it has become a reference in public health research. The foundation is present in 10 Brazilian states, in addition to having an international office in Maputo, Mozambique.
In 2020, Fiocruz partnered with the University of Oxford and the AstraZeneca laboratory to produce the ChAdOx1 vaccine, which is the Oxford vaccine, in Brazil. After being approved by Anvisa, the vaccine was produced at the Institute of Technology for Immunobiologicals (Bio-Manguinhos/Fiocruz). In 2021, the institution delivered 153.2 million vaccines to the Ministry of Health.
