Initial heat and a weather shift mark the extended holiday on the São Paulo coast, with rapid changes in climatic conditions and a risk of intense rain on the return, requiring attention from tourists and residents during the rest period.
The holiday of May 1, 2026, Labor Day, begins with heat on the coast of São Paulo, but the forecast indicates a change in weather over the extended weekend, with the advance of a cold front between Saturday night (2) and Sunday (3).
In this context, residents and tourists planning to travel to Baixada Santista need to redouble their attention, as the period is expected to combine high temperatures, a stuffy feeling, and an increased risk of heavy rain precisely at the end of the long holiday.
Heat on the SP coast at the start of the holiday
Throughout Friday (1st), the predominant scenario will be sun with clouds in cities on the São Paulo coast, with temperatures close to 28°C to 30°C in different parts of the region, favoring outdoor activities during the first day of rest.

Even with this more stable condition, the presence of cloudiness already indicates a gradual change in the atmospheric pattern, signaling the instability expected for the following days, although the most significant shift should only occur during the weekend.
In localities such as Santos, São Vicente, and Guarujá, the heat tends to intensify on Saturday (2), increasing the stuffy feeling, especially in urbanized areas and regions near the sandy strip, where air circulation is usually more limited.
Under these conditions, the thermal sensation can reach up to 33°C, exceeding the values recorded on thermometers and increasing thermal discomfort, especially during periods of greater sun exposure throughout the day.
Arrival of cold front brings risk of storms
The most significant change in weather is expected between Saturday night and Sunday morning, when a cold front advances over the São Paulo coast, rapidly altering atmospheric conditions and increasing the potential for instability events.
With the arrival of this system, the probability of rain showers accompanied by lightning and wind gusts increases, a scenario that requires attention especially in open areas, coastal regions, and places with a history of flooding.
For Sunday (3), the forecast indicates a more critical situation in Baixada Santista, with persistent rain throughout the day and volumes that could exceed 30 millimeters, increasing the risk of disruptions in more vulnerable urban areas.
Furthermore, the intensification of rain could impact the return journey to the capital and other regions of the state, affecting highways and increasing travel time on stretches prone to water accumulation.
Given this scenario, the recommendation is to follow updates from meteorological bulletins and avoid areas with a history of flooding, especially during periods of greater intensity of the predicted rainfall.
Early May may also have rain in the capital
After the extended holiday, instability should not be limited to the São Paulo coast, as the capital may also experience episodes of rain at the beginning of the week, still under the influence of the cold front advancing through the region.
During this period, the intensity of precipitation may vary according to the system’s evolution, but there are indications of favorable conditions for moderate to heavy showers at different times of the day.
According to Inmet’s meteorological alerts, situations of intense rain may be accompanied by stronger winds and other associated disruptions, especially in urban areas with compromised drainage.
For different regions of the state, there is a forecast of rain between 20 and 30 millimeters per hour or up to 50 millimeters in daily accumulation, which reinforces the need for caution in travel and outdoor activities.
Under these conditions, it is recommended to avoid crossing flooded roads, redouble attention on mountain stretches, and maintain additional care in situations of low visibility during more intense showers.
