The Companies ABB E-mobility and Shell Announced Plans to Launch an Innovation in the World of Electric Cars: The First National Network of the Fastest Charger in the World.
With more than 200 ABB Terra 360 chargers to be launched in Germany next year, ABB E-mobility and Shell will help ensure greater availability and charging speed for more than 1.7 million electric car drivers in the European country.
“At Shell, our goal is to be the leader in electric vehicle charging, providing our customers with charging when and where it is convenient for them. For drivers on the go, especially those on long trips, charging speed is crucial and every minute of wait can make a big difference in their journey,” said István Kapitány, Global Executive Vice President of Shell Mobility. Therefore, he also pointed out, through the partnership with ABB, Shell customers will receive the fastest charging available in Germany and soon in other countries.
The national Shell Recharge network of Terra 360 chargers, powered by 100% renewable electricity, will help meet the growing German demand for electric vehicle charging infrastructure, both from consumers and fleets. Additionally, it will further accelerate the future adoption of electric mobility throughout the country.

The CEO of ABB E-mobility, Frank Muehlon, commented that as a global leader in electric vehicle charging infrastructure, “we believe in the power of collaboration.” He emphasized that collaboration and innovation, working together, can be crucial in curbing the impact of climate change, enabling a low-carbon society.
With the transportation sector accounting for about 29% of greenhouse gases, Muehlon believes that collaborative work to drive change has never been more critical than now.
Recently, ABB E-mobility signed a global framework agreement with Shell aimed at providing the complete portfolio of ABB AC and DC charging stations. The portfolio includes not only the AC Wallbox for home operations, both work and retail installations, but also the Terra 360, ideal for fleet applications, gas stations, general and private parking lots, and urban charging stations.
By setting standards for data security and transparency, ABB has become one of the first major charging providers to achieve compliance for its electric car chargers – the Terra 53/54 and the High Power DC – which comply with the German regulation known as “Eichrecht.”
