Unprecedented Agreement Includes EA-37B Electronic Warfare Aircraft from L3Harris with Electromagnetic Attack Technology and Reinforces US Strategic Presence in Europe
Italy has signed a contract worth US$ 300 million with the United States for the acquisition of two electronic warfare aircraft. The negotiation, conducted with the American company L3Harris Technologies, represents the first international export of the EA-37B model, recently approved by the US government.
The jets will be used by the Italian Air Force and feature systems capable of neutralizing enemy communications, radars, and navigation at long distances. The agreement marks a significant advancement in Italian military modernization and operational integration with NATO allies.
Cutting-Edge Military Technology and Geopolitical Impact

The electronic warfare aircraft EA-37B will be based on the Gulfstream G550 executive jet and modified for electromagnetic attack missions. According to a statement from L3Harris, the aircraft offers critical tactical capabilities in modern conflict scenarios, capable of carrying out air interference in coordinated operations with intelligence and reconnaissance systems.

L3Harris partnered with the British company BAE Systems on the project, and the contract includes not only the delivery of the jets but also technical support and integration with Italian military systems. The models will be incorporated into the JAMMS (Joint Airborne Multi-Mission Multi-Sensor System) program, which already includes other G550 units configured for aerial surveillance.
Strategic Partnership Reinforces NATO and Expands US Influence

According to Jason Lambert, president of the Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance division at L3Harris, the initiative reinforces interoperability between the United States and Italy, expanding the joint response capability to global threats. The operation also solidifies the company’s positioning as a reference in multi-mission aircraft.
L3Harris has over 70 years of experience in modifying commercial aircraft for military use, with more than 125 different models already adapted. In addition to Italy, the company provides similar solutions to countries such as Japan, Australia, Canada, and South Korea—all strategic allies of the US.
Electronic Warfare Aircraft and Expanding Technological Dominance
With the acquisition of the EA-37B, Italy joins the group of countries with advanced technology in aerial electronic warfare, a sector increasingly decisive in contemporary conflicts. By authorizing the export of the model for the first time, the US also demonstrates confidence in the alliance with the Italian government and expands its sphere of influence in Europe.
The contract strengthens NATO’s presence in sensitive regions around the globe and anticipates a new phase in the military technological race, where electronic warfare aircraft play a central role in controlling airspace and information.
