The Participation and Generation of Electricity from Renewable Sources in Brazil Has Increased Significantly, Major Companies Like Ambev Want to Anticipate These New Trends and Secure Their Shares in This Sector

Leonardo Coelho, Director of Supply and Sustainability at the Brewery Ambev, informed in an interview with Reuters that he has partnered with 4 partners for the construction of 31 solar plants by the first quarter of 2020.

According to data from the Electric Energy Trading Chamber (CCEE) presented in the latest InfoMercado weekly bulletin, the share of wind energy in Brazil jumped from 8% to 8.2%, referencing data from the same period last year.

All three other major sources of renewable energy in Brazil achieved year-on-year growth in May. Solar power generation increased to 488 MWa, up from 310 MWa, hydroelectric power grew to 49,706 MWa, up from 45,153 MWa, and the country’s biomass plants produced 4,062 MWa, up from 3,892 MWa.

Total electricity generation increased by 4.9% year-on-year last month, with 65,006 MWa delivered to the National Interconnected System (SIN). Demand reached 61,976 MWa, 4.8% more than in 2018, noted the CCEE.
