Products of the Brands Serrano and Cordilheira Were Banned Due to Sanitary Irregularities; Consumers Should Avoid Consumption
The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) has determined the prohibition of the sale, manufacture, distribution, importation, and use of extra virgin olive oils from the brands Serrano and Cordilheira throughout Brazil. The decision was published in the Official Gazette and is based on the fact that the products were being marketed by companies without legal registration in the country, posing a risk to consumer health.
Why Were the Oils Banned by Anvisa?
According to Anvisa, the oils from the brands Serrano and Cordilheira were being distributed and sold by companies without an active National Register of Legal Entities (CNPJ) and without a valid sanitary authorization.
The sale by unknown companies violates food control and inspection regulations and raises suspicions about the origin, composition, and safety of the products.

Anvisa Issues Alert for Grated Coconut Lot
Anvisa has also suspended lot 030424158 of grated coconut from the brand Coco & Cia. The reason: presence of sulfur dioxide above the permitted limit, a preservative that, in excess, can cause adverse reactions.
This lot should also be avoided, and the guidance is similar: do not consume and contact the establishment responsible for the sale.
Food Safety in Focus
Anvisa reinforces the importance of consumers checking labeling, the manufacturer’s CNPJ, and inspection seals before purchasing food, especially those more susceptible to fraud, like oils, which are often targets of adulteration.
