In an initiative aimed at inclusion and democratization of knowledge, the Instituto Federal Sul-rio-grandense (IFSul) is offering open slots for free LIBRAS courses — the Brazilian Sign Language — through the online platform Mundi, which operates on a MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses) model.

The courses are 100% virtual, with free access and guarantee free certification at the end, representing an excellent opportunity for those wishing to start or enhance their knowledge in LIBRAS, with flexible hours and no costs.

Free LIBRAS Courses for All Levels: From Beginner to Advanced

The proposal from the Instituto Federal includes offering different modules focused on teaching LIBRAS, organized according to the student’s level of knowledge.

There are four available courses that together total more than 140 hours of content distributed in didactic and accessible modules developed by staff from the institution.

LIBRAS I

Ideal for beginners, the Libras I course is focused on the introduction to sign language, emphasizing the basic aspects of communication in LIBRAS.

The content also addresses deaf culture and identity, promoting a contextualized immersion for those wishing to learn how to communicate with deaf individuals.

With a duration of 40 hours and divided into four modules, this course does not require any prior knowledge.

LIBRAS II

For those fluent in sign language seeking improvement, Libras II offers advanced content, focusing on training translators and interpreters of LIBRAS.

The total workload is 40 hours, equally distributed over four modules, and the course proposes the development of new linguistic perspectives and essential techniques for professional practice.

LIBRAS III

Focused on the practice of communication in everyday situations, the Libras III course provides a more contextualized learning experience.

The student is encouraged to use LIBRAS in real dialogues, simulating interactions with deaf individuals. Also with a total workload of 40 hours, this course is indicated for those who already have some background and wish to apply the language in daily interactions.

Sign Writing of LIBRAS

Complementing the training, the Instituto Federal also offers the Sign Writing of LIBRAS course, which presents the SignWriting system — a method for visual recording of signs.

With a duration of 20 hours and divided into two modules, it is aimed at those who already have a basic knowledge of LIBRAS and wish to explore its written form, essential for the historical and academic record of the language.

Mundi Platform: Free Courses and Knowledge Accessible to Everyone

The courses are available on the Mundi Platform, a virtual learning environment created by IFSul.

It is a completely free space open to the public, academic or external, offering a wide variety of courses in MOOC format, allowing the student to progress at their own pace, at a time and place of their choice.

The initiative is coordinated by the Rectorate of the Federal Institute, with support from the Coordinating Office of Educational Technology Production (CPTE) and the Department of Distance Education and New Technologies (DETE), and reinforces the institution’s commitment to quality and educational inclusion.

How to Enroll in the Free Courses of the Federal Institute?

Enrollment in the LIBRAS courses is simple and open to anyone. Just access the Mundi platform, choose the desired course, read the complete description, and click on “Join”.

After that, the student can immediately start their studies. Navigation is intuitive, and there are no maximum or minimum deadlines for completion.

Free Certification and Institutional Recognition

One of the major advantages offered by the courses is the free certification, issued by the Federal Institute itself.

To obtain it, the student needs to achieve at least a score of 6 in all mandatory activities. Once the requirement is met, the certificate is automatically available on the platform.

This certification is recognized and can be used for academic, professional purposes, or as proof of qualification in LIBRAS — an increasingly valued differential in selection processes and public competitions.

Free LIBRAS Courses: Learning is Promoting Inclusion

With this offering of free LIBRAS courses, the Federal Institute reaffirms its social and educational role, expanding access to knowledge and promoting inclusion through quality distance education.

Learning LIBRAS is not just acquiring a new skill but also becoming an agent of social transformation, facilitating communication and coexistence with the deaf community.

For those seeking free, flexible qualification with institutional backing, this is the ideal opportunity.

The slots for LIBRAS courses at the Federal Institute are now available on the Mundi platform. Don’t miss the chance to take the next step towards inclusion and knowledge.
