Bahia Takes Center Stage in Brazil’s Energy Transition, Leading Solar and Wind Energy Generation and Strengthening Its Position in the Mining of Critical Minerals Essential for the Green Economy.
The global energy transition is no longer a distant forecast, but an ongoing reality. In this scenario, Bahia has gained a prominent position. The state is currently a leader in renewable energy production in Brazil, ranking first in both wind generation, at 35%, and solar generation, at 27%, according to data released by the Electric Energy Trading Chamber (CCEE, 2025).
This prominence is not by chance. There are 356 wind farms in 36 municipalities and 85 solar farms in 16 cities, with investments exceeding R$ 70 billion. In addition to the direct impact on the Brazilian energy matrix, this structure has already resulted in the creation of nearly 180,000 jobs, a number that reinforces Bahia’s role as a center of the green economy in the country.
Constant Expansion and New Projects on the Horizon
The advancement does not stop there. More than 700 renewable generation projects are underway or planned for the coming years. In the wind energy segment, Bahia already has 20 plants under construction and another 216 planned. In the photovoltaic solar sector, the pace is even more impressive: there are 20 projects underway and 538 awaiting the start of construction.

Goodbye to high electricity bills: technology hidden in the roof transforms homes into small power plants, produces energy every day, stores the surplus, and works even when the power goes out.
This movement shows that the state is prepared to meet the growing global demand for clean energy sources while positioning itself as one of the largest sustainable innovation hubs in Latin America.
Mining: Key Piece in Strengthening Clean Energy
But it’s not just energy production that puts Bahia in the spotlight. Mining also plays a decisive role in this process. The state ranks third in the ranking of Brazil’s largest mineral producers, trailing only Minas Gerais and Pará.
In the first quarter of 2025, mining activity moved R$ 3.5 billion, representing 3.34% of national exports. Revenue for the Bahian economy exceeded R$ 311 million, generating over 200 direct jobs.
This performance is driven by the production of nickel, copper, gold, vanadium, and uranium, in addition to the extraction of 47 of the 93 mineral types cataloged in Brazil. Currently, 48% of Bahian municipalities have mining as a prominent activity.
Robust Investments and Critical Minerals at the Center of the Green Economy
The outlook is even more promising when we look at projected investments. Between 2025 and 2029, Brazilian mining is expected to receive US$ 68.4 billion, with nearly US$ 9 billion allocated to Bahia, corresponding to 13.2% of the total.
These resources are primarily focused on the production of strategic critical minerals, essential for the global energy transition. Raw materials such as copper, nickel, cobalt, lithium, manganese, and rare earth elements are indispensable in the manufacture of wind turbines, batteries, and electric vehicles.
A symbolic example of this movement is the arrival of the Chinese automaker BYD, which is building a factory in Bahia for the production of electric cars. This initiative reinforces the connection between the mineral chain and the clean energy industry, consolidating the state as a leader in a new economic cycle.
With an abundance of natural resources, established infrastructure, and the attraction of large investments, Bahia establishes itself as a key player in Brazil’s energy transition. The state not only leads in solar and wind energy generation but also strengthens its position in the mineral sector, ensuring the supply of necessary inputs for the green revolution.
