With an Investment of Nearly R$ 350 Million, Bahia Will Have a New Natural Gas Processing Unit, Strengthening the Energy Sector and Creating Jobs
A PetroReConcavo announced the approval of a project for the construction of a Natural Gas Processing Unit (UPGN) in the Miranga Polo, located in Pojuca, Bahia. The announcement was sent to the market this Monday (04) and highlights that the total investment will be US$ 60 million, equivalent to approximately R$ 348.2 million at the current exchange rate.

Project Details in Bahia
The Miranga UPGN will have a processing capacity of 950 thousand cubic meters per day (m³/d), with the possibility of expanding to 1.5 million m³/d. This expansion reflects PetroReConcavo’s commitment to maximize production and optimize the existing infrastructure in the region, strengthening the natural gas production chain in Bahia.
The start of construction is scheduled for the first half of 2025, depending on regulatory approvals and environmental licenses. The forecast is that the unit will begin operations by the end of 2027, consolidating the company’s role in the exploration and processing of natural resources in the state.

Strategic Benefits
The new unit will bring a number of strategic advantages for PetroReConcavo:
- Reduction of Dependence: The UPGN will reduce the company’s dependence on third parties for natural gas processing, increasing operational autonomy.
- Cost Reduction: With its own processing structure, PetroReConcavo can reduce the costs associated with gas treatment.
- Risk Mitigation: The project will help avoid capacity bottleneck issues during peak production times, ensuring the continuity of operations in the long term.
Jobs
The construction of the Natural Gas Processing Unit (UPGN) is expected to create approximately 400 direct jobs, in addition to stimulating the local economy with new businesses and indirect services.
Designed to be built in modules, the UPGN will be installed in a strategic region for the Company, allowing alignment with the gas pipelines for the production output and connection to the transportation grid.
Impact on the Industry in Bahia
The decision to invest in its own UPGN in the Miranga Polo is a landmark for the company, demonstrating a clear strategy of vertical integration of midstream activities. With this new structure, the company can add value to the production process, improving logistics and the safety of natural gas distribution.
PetroReConcavo’s announcement emphasizes that the project is economically attractive and strengthens the company’s position in the energy sector, also contributing to the economic development of Bahia and energy supply in Brazil.
However, the success of the Miranga UPGN depends on external factors, such as the acquisition of necessary licenses and authorizations, which may influence the projected timeline.
The project also signals an advance in the company’s strategy in response to market demands and challenges in the gas and oil industry.
