Bioverde Plans Investment of R$ 1.3 Billion in New Corn Ethanol Plant in Alto Araguaia, Mato Grosso.
Mato Grosso, known as a leader in corn ethanol production in Brazil, is preparing to welcome a new ethanol plant. Bioverde, the company responsible for the project, will invest over R$ 1.3 billion in the installation of the ethanol plant in the municipality of Alto Araguaia. With this new plant, it is projected that the facility will produce over 1 billion liters of corn ethanol annually, along with 727 thousand tons of dry corn meal, thus contributing to ethanol production in the state.
About Bioverde’s Investment
Governor Mauro Mendes (União) expressed his satisfaction with the announcement of the investment by Bioverde. He highlighted that “no company makes such a large investment in an area that is not prosperous.”
Mendes mentioned that the Araguaia region, previously known as the Valley of the Forgotten, is now referred to as the Valley of Prosperity.

The governor emphasized the importance of attracting significant investments and industries to promote local economic development, including the ethanol sector.
Details of the Plant Project
The Bioverde project for the ethanol plant includes the creation of 250 jobs during the operational phase.
The new plant will be located along BR-364 and will have access to the railway, which will facilitate the transportation of the ethanol and meal produced by the plant.
This infrastructure is crucial to ensure efficiency in the distribution of products generated by the ethanol plant, contributing to the ethanol production chain in Mato Grosso.
The Importance of Corn Ethanol in Mato Grosso
Currently, Mato Grosso leads national corn ethanol production and ranks second in total ethanol production, which also includes sugarcane ethanol.
The state hosts 11 ethanol industries that, in 2023, produced a total of 4.43 billion liters of ethanol, representing 73% of Brazil’s production of this biofuel.
The industries are spread across cities such as Nova Marilândia, Poconé, São José do Rio Claro, and Sorriso.
Additionally, there are nine other ethanol plants under construction in municipalities like Sorriso and Ipiranga do Norte, along with future projects for new ethanol plants.
With Bioverde’s new investment, it is expected that ethanol production in Mato Grosso will continue to grow and contribute to the local economy.
