The Producers of BRF in Santa Catarina Signed the First Contracts to Finance the Installation of Solar Energy Panels in the Farms
In the state of Santa Catarina, producers working in cooperation with BRF, one of the largest food companies in the world, signed the first contracts of the company’s agreement with Banco do Brasil to finance the installation of solar energy in the farms. The agreement between BRF and BB stipulates that within BRF’s sustainability plan, a total of 200 million reais will be allocated to producers seeking energy efficiency.
BRF Sustainability Program
The agreement is part of BRF’s long-term strategy and is one of the initiatives of the plan, allowing the company to continue its commitment to sustainable development across the area and permeate all businesses. The company has set its own goal to increase the capacity for self-generation of clean or renewable energy by 50% over the next 10 years.
Solar Energy in the Farms of Santa Catarina
BRF did not specify the average unit cost; however, it is estimated that producers will stop paying around 5 thousand reais per month for electricity. Poultry producers will need to invest between 250 thousand reais and 300 thousand reais. With 200 million reais, more than 650 units of this unit value can be installed.

Canadian engineers want to compress air in underground caverns and build plants of up to 500 MW that function as giant lungs to store renewable energy for hours and stabilize entire electrical grids.
Recently, BRF had announced the “Vision 2030” plan announced in December of last year, which aims to increase the capacity for self-generation of electricity from clean or renewable sources by 50% over the next 10 years. For this, the company has already signed an agreement with Banco do Brasil that will provide a line of credit to finance investments in the installation of solar panels in farms in Santa Catarina and Paraná.
