Cold in Chapada Diamantina draws attention in official ranking and highlights Lençóis among northeastern municipalities with the lowest temperatures, reinforcing a characteristic not often associated with the interior of Bahia and nature tourism in the city known for its history linked to diamonds.
Lençóis, in Chapada Diamantina, recorded 12.7 °C last Monday (15th) and had the lowest temperature in the Northeast in the last 24 hours, according to the National Institute of Meteorology.
With this mark, the city in Bahia surpassed municipalities traditionally associated with cold in the northeastern interior and reinforced a lesser-known characteristic of the region, where high-altitude areas can have cold mornings even in the heart of the Northeast.
Also in Bahia, Vitória da Conquista appeared among the lowest temperatures of the period, with 13.5 °C at one weather station and 14.5 °C at another, according to data attributed to Inmet.

Following the informed ranking, Monteiro, in Paraíba, recorded 14.7 °C and 15.1 °C, keeping cities in Bahia and Paraíba among the cold highlights in the last 24 hours.
The measurements were observed at 12 UTC, the international time used in meteorology, which corresponds to 9 AM Brasília time and serves as a reference to consolidate the data released by the institute.
Lençóis combines cold, altitude, and tourism in Chapada Diamantina

Historically known for its connection to the diamond cycle, Lençóis also serves as one of the gateways to Chapada Diamantina and attracts visitors interested in nature, trails, and mountainous landscapes.
Among the accesses to the Chapada Diamantina National Park, the municipality appears alongside Andaraí, Ibicoara, Itaetê, Mucugê, and Palmeiras, cities that help form one of the main tourist routes in the interior of Bahia.
With 152 thousand hectares, the park protects part of the Serra do Sincorá, in the northern portion of the Serra do Espinhaço, and brings together areas of Atlantic Forest, Cerrado, and Caatinga in a single conservation unit.
This geographical context helps explain why a northeastern city can appear at the top of a cold ranking, as mountains, valleys, and elevated areas favor lower temperatures at certain times.
Inmet Ranking Highlighted Cities from Bahia and Paraíba
The lowest recorded temperature was in Lençóis, with 12.7 °C, followed by records from Vitória da Conquista, also in Bahia, a city that often appears in surveys of low temperatures in the state.
Shortly after, Monteiro, in the Cariri region of Paraíba, appeared with temperatures below 16 °C at the considered stations, increasing the presence of inland cities in the meteorological survey of the last 24 hours.

Although the numbers draw attention, they represent specific measurements made at meteorological stations and do not mean that the entire city experienced exactly the same temperature at the same time.
On meteorological monitoring platforms, Inmet gathers data on highest and lowest temperatures, precipitation, and humidity over 24 hours, allowing comparison of extreme records observed at different stations across the country.
Cold Increases Interest in the City of Diamonds
The record of 12.7 °C also brings new attention to Lençóis as a tourist destination, especially for those who associate Chapada Diamantina only with waterfalls, trails, and warm climate landscapes.
Sought after by visitors interested in rivers, viewpoints, and natural formations, the city gains another element of attraction when the cold becomes one of the main topics related to the Bahian municipality.
According to ICMBio, the Chapada Diamantina National Park offers options such as hiking, mountain biking, river bathing, climbing, and canoeing, activities that animate different sections of the conservation unit.
The natural structure of the region includes almost 300 km of trails, 33 waterfalls, caves, historical sites, and flooded areas like Marimbus, a setting that enhances the diversity of experiences for visitors.
Among the attractions mentioned by the federal agency is Cachoeira da Fumaça, one of the most well-known in the region, as well as trails distributed across nearby municipalities and associated with nature tourism.
For residents and tourists, the drop in temperatures not only changes the routine of the early hours of the day but also reveals a climatic aspect that many travelers are unaware of before arriving in the interior of Bahia.
In the ranking of the last 24 hours, the “Diamond Capital” surpassed cities from three northeastern states and showed that Chapada Diamantina combines historical heritage, nature tourism, and temperatures capable of surprising those who associate the Northeast only with heat.
