The New Ultra-Fast Rechargeable Battery from CATL Can Also Recharge from 0 to 80% in 30 Minutes, Even at Temperatures of -10°C.
In an exciting announcement that could transform the future of electric vehicles, CATL, the world leader in battery manufacturing, unveiled a battery with a surprising capacity to add 400 km of range to an electric car with just 10 minutes of charging. This remarkable promise, combined with the advanced technology it houses, may very well dictate the pace of the next wave in the automotive industry.
CATL Announces That Large-Scale Production of the Battery Starts in 2023
The much-anticipated battery, named Shenxing, is an innovation in the line of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries. With high expectations, CATL plans to begin large-scale production of this new product by the end of 2023, making it available for electric car manufacturers as early as the beginning of 2024.
Some highlights of this revolutionary battery include:
-
Eight of the ten largest energy storage companies in the world are Chinese, with BYD leading the ranking with its own system that has almost three times the capacity of Tesla’s Megapack and is already operating in a giant project in Saudi Arabia.
-
BMW X7 priced at R$ 1 million impresses with absurd technology, extreme luxury for seven people, and a self-parking system in Brazil
-
Hyundai launches Exter for around R$ 38,000 in direct conversion, cheaper than Citroën C3, Fiat Mobi, Argo, and HB20 in Brazil; entry-level mini-SUV has a 1.2 engine, six airbags, automated transmission, and even a sunroof in the more expensive car package in India.
-
It looks like a van but works as a light truck: Foton presents in China the Toano Aucan F2.5 chassis cab, with rear-wheel drive, manual transmission, leaf springs, and a safety package for intensive commercial operations.
- A new graphite anode: Promising improved efficiency.
- Renewed electrolyte formulation: Ensuring better electricity conduction.
- Thinner and more robust separator: Which means increased safety.
- Excellent thermal management: With significantly reduced heat generation.
- Enhanced battery management system (BMS): To ensure optimized performance.
The first privileged one in line to take advantage of this engineering marvel will be Avatr, a result of a collaboration between CATL, Changan, and Huawei.
Gao Han, CTO of CATL’s EV division, expressed optimism about the future of the battery, stating that, thanks to technological improvements and cost reductions, Shenxing is set to become the standard in the electric vehicle industry.
4C Charging
What truly stands out about Shenxing is its capability for ultra-fast charging. This is the world’s first LFP battery capable of supporting 4C charging. In addition to offering up to 700 km on a single charge, depending on the electric car in question, the main feature is its ability to add 400 km of range in just 10 minutes.
It is also worth mentioning that CATL has addressed one of the major challenges of LFP batteries – effectiveness in extremely low temperatures. With Shenxing, charging from 0 to 80% is possible in 30 minutes, even at temperatures of -10°C.
CATL is Setting Standards in the Electric Vehicle Battery Industry
As the undisputed leader in the global market for electric car batteries, CATL has already established two milestones in the global lithium battery landscape. These facilities operate with the highest standards of quality and production efficiency.
It is important to highlight that ultra-fast rechargeable batteries demand more from manufacturing processes, especially in the coating and welding stages. This reflects CATL’s technical excellence and capability in the field of production.
With the introduction of the Shenxing battery, CATL not only reaffirms its position as a market leader but also offers an exciting glimpse into what is to come in the revolution of electric vehicles.
