The Steinway Tower is located on West 57th Street, one of the most sought-after areas on the planet. The area became known as Billionaires’ Row for housing ultra-wealthy investors and high-end residential towers.
Among Steinway’s neighbors are 432 Park Avenue, One 57, and Central Park Tower, all icons of the Manhattan skyline.
Completed in 2022, the construction was designed by SHoP Architects and Studio Sofield.
The building received its name because it was erected on the same site where the historic Steinway Hall once operated, a concert hall linked to the traditional piano brand.
The original space was preserved and incorporated into the base of the building, keeping alive a part of the city’s musical history.
Extreme Engineering and Classical Inspiration
With 435 meters in height and a 24:1 height-to-width ratio, the Steinway Tower is officially the narrowest skyscraper ever built in the world.
Its slender appearance is the result of advanced engineering solutions and a design that seeks a balance between elegance and structural solidity.
Whoever acquires the penthouse will have access to several exclusive amenities in the building, such as breakfast at the Le Bilboquet restaurant, a 25-meter indoor pool, and a state-of-the-art gym.
“The building will have only 60 owners, and normally two-thirds are out of town. So, the pool will be practically private,” said Nikki Field from Sotheby’s International Realty to Bloomberg.
The tower’s aesthetic evokes New York’s Gilded Age, a period between the late 19th century and the early 1920s when the city consolidated itself as the world’s skyscraper capital.
“I wanted to create a unique experience that could only be lived in New York,” said William Sofield, founder of Studio Sofield, to CNN.

The Luxury Market on the Rise
Despite the extremely high price, interest in luxury real estate is growing. According to Bloomberg, sales of properties above US$ 10 million increased by 29% in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period in 2024.
Jonathan Miller, president of the real estate firm Miller Samuel, explained that part of this surge is due to the frustrated wait for interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve. “Last year, the market was stagnant, but since the Fed didn’t cut rates, people decided to buy right away.”
He added that even among billionaire buyers, economic conditions influence decisions. “Even though 90% of buyers of properties above US$ 5 million in Manhattan pay in cash, the Fed’s policy still impacts financial markets,” said Miller.
Thus, amid global uncertainty, the Steinway Tower stands as a symbol of luxury resistant to crises — a skyscraper as narrow as it is exclusive, reflecting the essence of New York ambition.
