Although the BYD Song Pro has a 235 hp hybrid engine, the Hyundai Creta 1.6 TGDi is more agile in tests, achieving 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 210 km/h, as well as significantly lower insurance and service costs.
Despite delivering more power, the BYD hybrid SUV cannot outperform its South Korean rival in practical tests. The Creta Ultimate, equipped with a 1.6 TGDi engine generating 193 hp and 27 kgfm of torque, went from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.5 seconds, reaching a top speed of 210 km/h.
Meanwhile, the Song Pro, which combines a 1.5 naturally aspirated gasoline engine with an electric motor for a total of 235 hp, took 8.2 seconds to complete the same test and has a maximum speed of 185 km/h.
The difference, according to an analysis by Autoesporte, is clearly felt behind the wheel. The combustion engine of the Creta delivers more direct responses, while BYD’s plug-in hybrid focuses on energy efficiency and comfort, prioritizing fuel economy.

On the other hand, the Song Pro boasts impressive averages: 27.7 km/l in the city and 18.2 km/l on the highway, a performance that no gasoline SUV in the category can match.
However, ownership costs can be significant. The insurance for the BYD can be double that of the Creta, with quotes ranging from R$ 7,369 to R$ 8,461, depending on the driver’s profile, while the Hyundai ranges from R$ 3,039 to R$ 3,549. The first five service appointments are also cheaper for the South Korean model — R$ 4,209 compared to R$ 6,778 for the Chinese one.
In terms of dimensions, the Song Pro has an advantage: it measures 4.74 meters in length and has a wheelbase of 2.71 m, with a trunk capacity of 520 liters.
The more compact Creta measures 4.33 m and offers 433 liters, but it compensates with a less elevated central tunnel and good interior space for occupants.
Both offer a comprehensive safety package, with ADAS systems that include autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-change and departure assistance.
For R$ 200 thousand, buyers must choose between two distinct paths: the performance and handling of the Creta, or the efficiency and space of the Song Pro — a competition that highlights the new balance between combustion and electrification in the Brazilian market.
