With Consumption of 24.6 Km/L and Range Over 1,000 Km, the Kia Niro is the Most Fuel-Efficient Car in Brazil in 2026. Hybrid SUV Combines Performance, Comfort, and Unmatched Efficiency in the Country.
In a scenario where gasoline prices pressure drivers and even the most popular hybrids are expensive to maintain, a Korean SUV has emerged as a phenomenon of energy efficiency in the country. The Kia Niro, a light hybrid model officially launched in Brazil in 2023, was elected by the Folha-Mauá Ranking 2024 as the most fuel-efficient car in the country, with a highway consumption of 24.6 km/l and a range that exceeds 1,000 km on a single tank.
This achievement places the Niro in an advanced tier compared to established hybrids, such as the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid and Honda HR-V e:HEV, and reinforces Kia’s strength in the race for accessible electrification.
A Hybrid Made for Brazil
The Kia Niro HEV uses a self-recharging hybrid system, without the need for a plug. The system combines a 1.6 GDI gasoline engine with Atkinson cycle with a 32 kW synchronous electric motor, which together deliver 141 hp and 27 kgfm of torque.

Hyundai lowers the price of the Creta Limited and the compact SUV becomes cheaper than the Fiat Pulse Audace in Brazil with a discount of over R$ 20,000, featuring a 1.0 turbo engine with 120 hp, 6-speed automatic transmission, and a complete ADAS package in a flash sale for individuals until June 3.

New Fiat EV, priced at R$ 77,000, will bring a reinterpretation of the 147 and a consumption equivalent to 70 km/l.
This configuration ensures quick starts, safe overtaking, and extremely low consumption even with the air conditioning on — one of the points that most impact efficiency in hybrid cars.
The transmission is automated with dual clutch and six gears, one of the major differences compared to rivals, which typically use CVT. The result is a more direct driving experience, with noticeable shifts and behavior closer to that of a traditional car.
The Car That Goes Over 1,000 Km on a Tank
The Kia Niro’s tank has only 42 liters, but the energy efficiency is so high that it travels 1,033 km on enough fuel to go from São Paulo to Brasília without refueling. In official tests, the SUV achieved 24.6 km/l in highway cycle and 19.8 km/l in urban cycle, the best numbers among all vehicles evaluated in the country in 2024.
This is possible thanks to the intelligent operation of the hybrid system, which prioritizes the electric motor at low speeds and activates the combustion engine only when there is a need for extra torque or battery recharge.
The process is automatic, silent, and practically imperceptible to the driver; the car decides on its own which mode to use to save the maximum energy.
Performance and Comfort of a Premium SUV
Despite the focus on efficiency, the Kia Niro does not compromise on comfort. With a length of 4.42 m and a wheelbase of 2.72 m, it offers an interior space worthy of a medium SUV, a trunk of 425 liters, and high-quality finishes. The dashboard is 100% digital, with a dual 10.25-inch screen, multimedia system compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as a dual-zone digital air conditioning.
The acoustic insulation is exemplary, and the fully electric mode makes the car almost silent in urban areas. The independent suspension on all four wheels ensures stability even at high speeds, and the dynamic behavior is surprising for a compact hybrid.
In Sport mode, the Niro combines both motors to unleash the full power of 141 hp, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.4 s, while maintaining average consumption over 20 km/l — a rare combination of performance and efficiency.
Sustainability and Cutting-Edge Technology
In addition to consumption, the Kia Niro also impresses with its environmental focus. The body uses recycled materials, such as ocean-sourced plastics and solvent-free paints, while the interior adopts sustainable fabrics and plant-based coatings.
In the technological field, the model comes with a complete package of semi-autonomous assists, including automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, front collision warning, and blind spot monitoring — equipment generally found only in premium SUVs over R$ 300,000.
Thanks to these solutions, the Niro emits only 70 g/km of CO₂, one of the lowest rates ever recorded by a gasoline-powered vehicle in Brazil.
Electric Range and Intelligent Charging
Unlike plug-in hybrids, the Niro HEV does not need to be connected to a power outlet. The system regenerates energy during braking and deceleration, automatically recharging the battery. This energy is then used to power the electric motor at low speeds, drastically reducing consumption in urban routes.
It is a technology that unites the best of both worlds — combustion car range and electric efficiency — without requiring charging infrastructure.
Price and Cost-Effectiveness
Offered in Brazil in a single version, the Kia Niro HEV has a suggested price of R$ 204,000 (2025 table). Although it is positioned in the medium SUV range, the cost per kilometer traveled is much lower than that of rivals: around R$ 0.29/km, compared to R$ 0.50/km for conventional gasoline models.
In practice, the owner saves about R$ 5,000 per year on fuel, considering an average of 15,000 km driven. Additionally, the model requires simple maintenance; the electric motor has no belts, conventional clutch, or exhaust, and the battery has an 8-year or 160,000 km warranty.
The title of the most fuel-efficient car in Brazil is not just a technical achievement. The Kia Niro symbolizes the transition of the Brazilian consumer to mature, efficient, and sustainable hybrid technologies. It shows that it is possible to combine range, comfort, and performance without depending on complex electrical infrastructure.
With record efficiency, refined design, and cutting-edge engineering, the Niro establishes itself as the most efficient and rational car of 2026, anticipating what will be the new generation of SUVs in the country — vehicles that travel more, pollute less, and cost much less to maintain.
