Recent data show that the airport has been breaking consecutive records, with growth surpassing that of many terminals in the country.
Significant Growth in 2024 and 2025
In 2024, the airport received 9.5 million passengers, an increase of 6% compared to the previous year. There were more than 91,000 aircraft operations and almost 56,000 tons of cargo transported. These figures already positioned the terminal prominently. But the numbers for 2025 surprised even more.
Only between January and May of this year, there were more than 3.9 million passengers.
The volume is 3.6% higher than in the same period of 2024 and already surpasses the levels recorded before the pandemic.
Domestic flights accounted for the majority of the movement, with 3.7 million passengers. However, international flights had an impressive leap: 175,000 passengers, which represents an increase of 37.4%.
Modern Structure and Efficient Operation
The Recife airport has modern infrastructure, with a passenger terminal of more than 56,000 square meters.
The current capacity is 8.7 million passengers per year but can be expanded to up to 15 million. The main runway is 2,751 meters long and accommodates large domestic and international flights.
The aircraft apron has over 103,000 square meters and features 11 fingers for direct boarding, in addition to 21 remote positions.
The airport’s parking lot has space for over 2,000 vehicles, and there is direct connection to the metro via a covered walkway.
Strategic Hub and International Highlight
The strategic location of Recife has made the airport an important hub for Azul Linhas Aéreas, in addition to being a relevant operational point for GOL. The terminal has expanded its international connections, with direct flights to destinations such as Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, and Lisbon.
In 2020, the airport was named the best regional terminal in Brazil by the Skytrax award. It was also considered the 4th best in South America and the 7th most punctual in the world among medium-sized terminals.
Operated by the Spanish Aena
Since 2019, the airport has been under concession by Aena, a Spanish operator responsible for modernizations and improvements.
The private management has ensured advancements in service quality and operational efficiency, which helps explain the positive performance in recent years.
With the constant increase in demand and investments in infrastructure, the Recife Airport continues to grow.
The trend is that it will strengthen even further as a connection center and reference in efficiency in Brazil. In 2025, all indications are that new records will still be broken.
