With A Billion-Dollar Investment, Ambev Bets On A New Glass Factory In Paraná To Strengthen Logistics, Increase Production Efficiency, And Compete With Rivals In The Beer Market, In An Industrial Hub That Is Already Strategic For The Company.

Ambev will install a glass bottle factory in Carambeí (PR), in the Campos Gerais, with an investment of R$ 870 million and plans to start operations by the last quadrimester of this year, according to information originally published by the portal A Rede and confirmed by the company.

The project expands the company’s industrial presence in the region, where it has been operating, since May 2016, the brewery in Ponta Grossa, and aims to reinforce its own logistics and operational efficiency amid the advance of competitors like Heineken and the craft beer segment.

New Glass Factory Reinforces Logistics In Paraná

Located just a few kilometers from the brewery, the Carambeí unit was designed to supply packaging for brands in Ambev’s portfolio, such as Brahma and Spaten.

The proximity to the production line in Ponta Grossa reduces transport routes, shortens deadlines, and mitigates risks of stockouts, which are critical points in supply chains that depend on returnable and long-cycle bottles.

In addition to saving time, factory integration lowers logistics costs and concentrates strategic suppliers in the same hub, facilitating the planning of harvests and promotional campaigns.

It will be a glass bottle factory that will bring several brands, such as the bottle of Brahma, of Spaten,” described the director of the Ponta Grossa brewery, Aurélio Pessoa Junior, highlighting the relevance of the project for the operational framework.

Ponta Grossa Brewery Maintains Constant Modernization

The brewery in Ponta Grossa was inaugurated in 2016 with an initial investment of over R$ 800 million and has since undergone expansions and technological adjustments.

According to Pessoa Junior, “since the beginning, we have invested around R$ 1 billion in this brewery alone. We are constantly modernizing, introducing new brands, and we are also investing in production capacity and logistics.”

With around one thousand workers including its own team and partners, the plant produces six labels: Budweiser, Original, Brahma, Brahma Duplo Malte, Skol, and Antarctica.

The production is bottled in long neck bottles, 600 ml and 1 liter, as well as cans of 350 ml and 473 ml.

The Brahma Chopp is packaged in kegs of 10, 30, and 50 liters. The distribution prioritizes the South and Southeast markets, regions with higher consumption density and more mature logistics networks for frequent deliveries.

Integration “From Field to Glass” Boosts Production

According to the director, Paraná houses the essential links for the supply chain of beer: raw materials, labor, quality water, and now, the future supply of bottles.

We usually say it’s ‘from field to glass’,” said Pessoa Junior, explaining the logic of vertical integration that reduces external dependencies and increases cost predictability.

Local glass production also facilitates fine-tuning of specifications, labeling, and standardization of returnable packaging, as well as enabling tests of new packaging without extending development times.

For the operation, this means a lower risk of stoppages due to lack of input and a faster response to changes in retail demand, as highlighted by A Rede.

Sustainability Allied To Industrial Efficiency

The Ponta Grossa unit is regarded by the company as the first brewery of the group in Brazil to be carbon neutral, which links environmental goals to productivity gains.

Measures such as water reuse, thermal efficiency, and optimized logistics with shorter routes contribute to reducing emissions while simultaneously lowering recurring costs.

In the case of glass, the proximity between the furnace and the bottling line tends to reduce transport emissions and losses in the chain.

The adoption of returnable bottles, common in Ambev’s portfolio, also benefits from faster cycles of collection, inspection, and refilling, strengthening the circular economy model.

Strategy To Compete With Rivals And Meet Deadlines

By internalizing part of the bottle production in the same hub, Ambev expects to decrease exposure to external shocks in the supply chain.

Transportation interruptions, variations in freight costs, and supplier restrictions will have a mitigated impact.

In an intensely competitive sector, especially against Heineken and craft brands in value-added niches, ensuring constant availability and replacement agility tends to be crucial for maintaining market share.

The company also emphasizes that the state brings together raw materials, skilled labor, and quality water, conditions that, combined with the new bottle factory “at the door” of the brewery, should simplify routines and scale efficiency gains.

Next Steps For Operational Reinforcement

The official expectation is to start operations in Carambeí by the last quadrimester of the year, aligning the entry of the glass furnace with the brewery’s production plan.

Meanwhile, Ponta Grossa continues its modernization, with investments focused on technology, logistics, and capacity expansion, according to the director.

The stated goal is to keep the unit at the top of the company’s manufacturing park, with updated processes and greater integration with the new internal packaging supplier.

In a volatile consumption scenario, the strategy converges on three fronts of operational reinforcement: synchronizing production and bottling, shortening the supply chain of packaging, and preserving flexibility to maneuver the portfolio between high-volume brands and premium lines.

Given this layout, what other impacts might the integration between Carambeí and Ponta Grossa bring to supplying the South and Southeast?
