The new selection process in RS offers opportunities at different levels of training that aim to strengthen public safety in the State
The General Institute of Expertise of Rio Grande do Sul (IGP RS) is just a few steps away from launching its long-awaited public competition. With the publication of Ordinance IGP No. 139/2024, the organizing committee was officially formed, marking an important step forward in the selection process. The contest aims to fill 234 vacancies distributed among the positions of Criminal Expert, Forensic Medical Expert, Expert Technician and Papiloscopist.
Main roles and requirements
The IGP RS contest must offer opportunities for candidates with both secondary and higher education. The loads covered have specific requirements:
- Forensics expert: requires higher education in areas such as Chemistry, Biology or Engineering.
- Forensic Medical Expert: requires a degree in Medicine.
- Expertise Technician: intended for candidates with intermediate or technical level in related areas.
- Papiloscopist: requires completed higher education and offers an initial salary of R$8.587,25.
Remuneration varies according to the workload and working hours, which may exceed R$ 10 thousand for Criminal Expert and Forensic Medical Expert.

Role of IGP RS in public safety
The General Institute of Expertise is one of the pillars of public safety in the state. Responsible for criminal investigations, the Agency carries out essential activities such as analyzing crime scenes, identifying bodies, conducting laboratory tests and issuing technical reports.
Headquartered in Porto Alegre and with units spread throughout Rio Grande do Sul, the IGP works in partnership with the Public Security Secretariat (SSP), ensuring that investigative processes are transitory with scientific results. This competition reinforces the agency's commitment to maintaining excellence in fighting crime.
