Established in 2008, the Pecém Steel Company (CSP) is a binational joint venture formed by Brazilian Vale (50% stake), one of the largest iron ore mining companies in the world, and the South Korean companies Dongkuk (30%), the largest global buyer of steel plates, and Posco (20%), the 5th largest steelmaker in the world and the first in South Korea. With an investment of around US$ 5.4 billion, CSP is the first integrated plant in the Northeast and the thirtieth installed in Brazil.
Located in an area of 571 hectares, CSP is part of the Pecém Industrial and Port Complex (CIPP) in Ceará, within the first Brazilian Export Processing Zone (ZPE), fundamental factors for ensuring broad competitiveness for national products.
The plant, one of the most modern in Brazil and the world, began production of steel plates in June 2016. The production is aimed at generating high-quality rolled products for the naval, oil & gas, automotive, and construction industries. The installed capacity is 3 million tons of steel plates per year in this first phase of the project.
CSP is a modern industry, with clean and cutting-edge technology that adheres to sustainability in all its aspects – environmental, social, and economic.
