The Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) announces the opening of the selection process for the free master’s course in education, class of 2025, according to Public Notice No. 1178, dated December 20, 2024. This is an excellent opportunity for professionals to deepen their knowledge and develop research in various areas of education. The program offers 54 spots split between general competition and affirmative action, with opportunities for different profiles.
The main objective of the free course is to train masters in education who are capable of developing research and projects that contribute to educational transformation. Activities include theoretical classes, group discussions, seminars, as well as the development of a dissertation. The total workload of the program is 405 hours, with required and elective courses held in-person at the Praia Vermelha campus, Rio de Janeiro.

The program offers 54 spots for the free master’s course, as follows:

- 36 spots for general competition.
- 18 spots reserved for affirmative action, distributed among self-declared black, brown, indigenous candidates, people with disabilities, and other groups.
Classes will take place at the College of Education campus, in the Urca neighborhood, Rio de Janeiro, with possibilities for remote activities in specific cases.
Selection Processes
The selection process will be conducted in three stages:
- Written exam (eliminatory), with general and specific questions from the chosen research line.
- Oral examination, based on the pre-project and Lattes curriculum.
- Validation of self-declaration for candidates competing for affirmative action spots.
Candidates who are not classified for the reserved spots will still be able to compete for general spots, depending on performance.
Requirements for Course Application
To participate in the free course, candidates must have a bachelor’s degree or a certificate of completion, in addition to presenting a pre-research project. Documents such as Lattes curriculum and specific certificates are also required. Those opting for remote examination must prove residency more than 250 km away and ensure internet access.
