Elon Musk Calls for Trump’s Impeachment After Threat to Cancel SpaceX Contracts and Decommission Dragon Ship. Understand All the Details of the Controversy

Billionaire Elon Musk surprised everyone by calling for the impeachment of U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday (5). The statement was made in a post on X, the platform owned by Musk himself, after a new exchange of barbs between the two.

Exchange of Barbs on X Platform

The discussion began when a user posted: “President vs. Elon. Who wins? I bet on Elon. Trump should be impeached, and JD Vance should replace him.” Musk responded with a simple “yes”, clearly showing his agreement with the suggestion.

The tension between Musk and Trump had been rising in recent days. The conflict escalated after Trump publicly mentioned the possibility of canceling government contracts with SpaceX, the space transportation company led by Musk.

Threat of Decommissioning the Dragon Ship

In direct response to Trump’s comments, Musk reacted with a new post: “In light of the president’s statement about canceling my government contracts, @SpaceX will begin decommissioning its Dragon spacecraft immediately.

The threat generated concern in the scientific and space community. According to SpaceX itself, the Dragon ship is currently the only spacecraft capable of returning large amounts of cargo to Earth. The vehicle can also carry up to seven passengers, being essential for operations at the International Space Station (ISS) and for NASA missions.

Importance of Dragon to NASA

In 2023, a Dragon capsule was crucial in rescuing two NASA astronauts who were stranded at the ISS for nine months due to failures in a Boeing vehicle.

The episode highlighted SpaceX’s importance to the American space program.

So far, SpaceX has not issued an official statement regarding Musk’s announcement.
