Threat of Decommissioning the Dragon Ship
In direct response to Trump’s comments, Musk reacted with a new post: “In light of the president’s statement about canceling my government contracts, @SpaceX will begin decommissioning its Dragon spacecraft immediately.”
The threat generated concern in the scientific and space community. According to SpaceX itself, the Dragon ship is currently the only spacecraft capable of returning large amounts of cargo to Earth. The vehicle can also carry up to seven passengers, being essential for operations at the International Space Station (ISS) and for NASA missions.
Importance of Dragon to NASA

The episode highlighted SpaceX’s importance to the American space program.
So far, SpaceX has not issued an official statement regarding Musk’s announcement.
