With High Technology, State-of-the-Art Management, and Record Production, a Farm from São Paulo Stands Out Nationally, Innovating in Milk Production and Showing How It Is Possible to Unite Productivity, Animal Welfare, and Sustainability in a Single Successful Model in Agribusiness.
With cutting-edge technology, efficient management, and impressive productivity, Fazenda Colorado, in Araras (SP), has been leading milk production in Brazil for over a decade, establishing itself as a reference in the sector.
Brazil occupies a prominent position in the global milk production scenario, reaching a volume of 35.4 billion liters in 2023, according to official data.
With a presence in 98% of municipalities, the milk production chain employs around 4 million people directly and indirectly, highlighting its importance both for the economy and for national food security.

In recent years, Brazilian dairy farming has undergone an intense process of modernization and professionalization.
While small farms used to predominate, today large farms are emerging that utilize high technology and careful management to achieve production volumes that were previously unimaginable.
In this context, Fazenda Colorado stands out as the largest dairy farm in the country, serving as an example of efficiency, innovation, and sustainability.

Fazenda Colorado: The Dairy Powerhouse of Brazil
Located in Araras, in the interior of São Paulo, Fazenda Colorado has held the title of the largest milk producer in Brazil for 11 consecutive years, according to the Top 100 MilkPoint ranking.
With a herd of approximately 2,400 Holstein cows in lactation, the property’s daily production reaches an impressive 106,000 liters of milk.
This volume not only significantly surpasses the average of large farms in the country but also shows consistent growth: current production is 81% higher than in 2014, when the farm took the national lead.
All this production is destined for A-grade milk, the highest quality standard available in the Brazilian market.
The process occurs entirely within the property, which houses its own dairy — the Xandô brand — responsible for packaging and producing derivatives such as butter, cheese, and cream.
The verticalized model, from field to consumer’s table, ensures rigorous quality control at all stages of the production chain, adding value to the final product and strengthening the brand in the market.

Technology that Revolutionizes Milk Production
The significant technological leap at Fazenda Colorado occurred in 2012, with an investment of approximately R$ 70 million in one of the most modern milking parlors in Latin America.
The adopted system is the carousel milking, fully automated, with the capacity to milk 72 cows simultaneously and up to 450 cows per hour, in three daily shifts.
This method eliminates manual contact with the milk, complying with the stringent sanitary protocols required for A-grade milk.
The milking structure was designed with a focus on hygiene, biosecurity, and animal comfort.
The environment features natural ventilation, adequate lighting, and automatic disinfection systems. To ensure the purity of the area, visitors only enter wearing sterilized clothing.
Another pillar of Fazenda Colorado’s success is animal welfare and individualized herd management. Each cow is monitored in real-time through electronic collars that record data such as steps, feeding time, rumination, and respiratory rate.
This information is analyzed by intelligent systems, allowing quick and precise decisions regarding the health, reproduction, and management of the animals.
Comfort is taken so seriously that lactating cows and those close to giving birth are housed in a climate-controlled shed of 27,000 m², equipped with cross-ventilation and evaporative panels, capable of reducing internal temperatures by up to 12 °C, which is essential for welfare on hot days.

World-Class Productivity
The result of this technological and management care is a productivity that impresses even international experts.
While the national average production is about 6 liters of milk per cow per day, at Fazenda Colorado, each cow produces, on average, 44 liters daily — a figure comparable to the best farms in the United States and Europe.
Additionally, the farm maintains a robust genetic improvement program, with over 3,400 heifers in growth. This strategy ensures an increasingly productive herd while also allowing the commercialization of high-quality genetic animals to other producers in the country.
Keeping an eye on market trends focused on health, Colorado recently implemented the production of A2A2 milk, known for its proteins that facilitate digestion in people sensitive to traditional lactose. To do this, part of the herd underwent genotyping and genetic selection processes.
Economic Impact and Sustainable Practices
The impact of Fazenda Colorado goes far beyond milk production. With 86 direct employees, including veterinarians, animal scientists, and technicians, the property also generates hundreds of indirect jobs by engaging suppliers of inputs, transporters, and distributors.
It is estimated that the annual revenue of the farm reaches tens of millions of reais, consolidating it as one of the major economic forces in the Araras region.
In terms of sustainability, Fazenda Colorado is exemplary: all organic waste generated during production is treated and transformed into fertilizer for corn cultivation and other crops. Water is also reused for irrigation and cooling, reducing environmental impact and optimizing resources.
Another interesting project is the productive longevity initiative. Currently, the farm has 15 lifetime cows, each surpassing the impressive mark of 100,000 liters of milk throughout their lives — a rare achievement celebrated by the team.
Additionally, the property cultivates about 1,000 hectares of corn for silage production, essential to ensure quality feed for the herd without relying on external suppliers.
This combination of high productivity, technological innovation, and environmental responsibility makes Fazenda Colorado an inspiration for the entire national agribusiness sector.
A Model for the Future of Agribusiness
The story of Fazenda Colorado demonstrates how the union of modern management, technological investments, and commitment to sustainability can transform the landscape of dairy farming.
In a sector where global competitiveness demands excellence, the São Paulo farm shows that it is possible to combine productive efficiency, quality, animal welfare, and social-environmental responsibility, paving the way for the future of Brazilian agribusiness.
