Memorandum of Understanding to Be Signed Today in SC, Between Itajaí Participações, Fiesc, and Emgepron to Strengthen the Santa Catarina Naval Industry
Despite Cuts in the Defense Budget Worrying Everyone, SC Expo Defense, a Job Opportunities Fair in the Defense Sector Opening This Friday (09/27) in Florianópolis, Will Be the Venue for the Signing of a Memorandum of Understandings for the Implementation of a Defense Naval Industry Cluster in the State.
A cluster, in the industrial sector, means a concentration of companies that communicate because they share similar characteristics and inhabit the same location, collaborating with each other and thereby becoming more efficient.
The agreement will be signed by Itajaí Participações, a public company for attracting investments in Itajaí, the Federation of Industries of Santa Catarina (Fiesc), and the Management Company of Naval Projects of the Brazilian Navy (Emgepron).
The idea is to strengthen the naval industry of SC in light of the demands that will arise with the construction of the Corvettes of the Brazilian Navy by the Águas Azuis Consortium.

The Project
The investment to be made by the Brazilian Navy in the construction of the 4 vessels will be on the order of US$ 2 billion and will require a strong supply chain in the state of SC.
At the peak of production, it is estimated that 2,000 direct jobs and an additional 6,000 indirect jobs will be created, representing a light at the end of the tunnel for the long-struggling shipbuilding industry of the state, which is concentrated in Itajaí and Navegantes and has previously employed 10,000 people.
This new segment of defense shipbuilding could signify the recovery of the sector, as the works of the Consortium led by ThyssenKrupp will take place at the Oceana shipyard in Itajaí.
The Águas Azuis Consortium is formed by the German ThyssenKrupp, Embraer Defense and Security, and will have the Oceana shipyard of CBO, from Itajaí, SC, as the builder.
