United States of America: 50% of the Country’s GDP Is Linked to Welders and Only the Construction Sector Has Registered More Than 400 Thousand Job Vacancies
The construction sector is expanding more and more in today’s society (accounting for 16% of job opportunities in February 2024) and, with this growth, the demand for skilled workers is also increasingly high in the profession.
The good news is that the demand for labor in the construction sector in the United States of America is being met, largely by the Generation Z, which is increasingly seeking roles such as welders and others, according to Yahoo Finance. However… the estimate is that in each of the next five years, America will need 82,000 new welders to enter the labor market to keep up with the existing demand.
As Michael Krupnicki, President of the American Welding Society and owner of the Rochester Arc + Flame Center, states, welders are in demand across the country and the demand is also high. The role of a welder is of great importance in various sectors such as aerospace, agriculture, construction, and even energy.

United States: High Demand for Welders in Construction and Other Areas
The increase in demand for welding professionals is prompting young people to start looking for careers early, right after high school graduation, which represents a shift for those who did not want to work in an office or pursue a college degree.
According to the American Welding Society, about 82,000 new welders will be needed in the next 5 years to fill the job market and meet the demand for these professionals both in construction and in other areas.
Krupnicki also noted that the vast majority of professionals starting their careers as welders are around 20 years old, and more and more young people are becoming interested in the profession.

Demand for Welders in the United States of America May Also Be Met by Women
It is a misconception that only men want to enter the welding career! Women represent 6% in the profession, and the trend is set to grow even more. Additionally, diversity in the field is also increasing, with 40% to 50% of welders being non-Caucasian.
The American Welding Society encourages people from various demographic groups to enter the welding career.
