Trump Promises To Protect Kiev And Reimburse Costs With Military Aid
In a move that promises to redefine the defense strategy of the Ukraine, U.S. President Donald Trump stated last Sunday, July 13, 2025, that his administration will send Patriot Air Defense Missiles to Ukrainian territory.
The decision comes after successive nighttime bombings ordered by Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia. According to Trump, “he talks nicely but then bombs everyone at night.” Thus, the promise reinforces the commitment of the Americans to the protection of Kiev, especially amidst the escalation of daily missile and drone attacks.
Promise of Technical And Financial Support
Trump, who had already expressed dissatisfaction with Putin’s advances, emphasized that sending the Patriot systems is vital to counter Russian incursions.

Although he did not detail the number of missiles, the U.S. President assured that the costs will be fully reimbursed by the European Union. This maintains the principle that allies should share the financial burdens.
According to information released also on July 13, 2025, Trump is also considering a drastic change. For the first time, he plans to release offensive weapons to Ukraine, expanding the scope of defense.
New Meeting With NATO Amid Tensions
In light of the ongoing tensions, Trump is planning a meeting with Mark Rutte, the NATO Secretary General, later this week.
The meeting aims to discuss not only the new supply of missiles but also the possibility of intensifying logistical support. Although the White House has avoided commenting on details, sources close to the government confirm that there is a reassessment of the U.S. stance regarding European security.
Thus, the transatlantic alliance reinforces its strategic role, especially in the face of Putin’s resistance to negotiate any ceasefire.
Ukraine Asks For Reinforcements Against Daily Attacks
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky continues to demand more defensive capabilities to face the offensives. With attacks occurring daily, Kiev’s air defense relies on increasingly sophisticated armaments.
“We will send Patriots, which they desperately need because Putin has really surprised a lot of people,” Trump explained to reporters at Joint Base Andrews, in the Washington area.
Shortly after formalizing the promise, Trump emphasized the importance of not backing down. In addition to the Patriots, new military equipment will be made available soon, according to the U.S. government.
Military Strategy Remains Without Clear Details
Despite the confirmation of the shipment, the exact number of Patriot Missiles remains confidential. Trump emphasized that the operation will be conducted transparently, so that “not a cent is wasted.”
The entire reimbursement process will remain intact. This stance, according to experts, signals that the U.S. intends to increase diplomatic pressure on Russia.
They demand clearer countermeasures in future dialogue attempts. For the Ukrainian population, the expectation is that this new wave of aid will help mitigate, at least partially, the impact of the bombings that have not ceased since 2022.
