In September, Fuels Had Subtle Variations: Gasoline Fell 0.10%, Following Inflation Preview, While Ethanol Rose 0.38% and Diesel S-10 Declined 0.24%.
In September, fuels experienced minimal changes: gasoline registered a decrease of 0.10%, following the inflation preview trend (-0.08%), according to ValeCard’s survey. Meanwhile, ethanol showed an increase of 0.38% and diesel S-10 saw a slight decrease of 0.24%. These movements reflect market conditions and directly influence transportation and logistics costs.
Gasoline and derivative prices continue to be influenced by economic variations as well as the supply and demand for fuels. During this period, average fueling values maintained some stability, with minor fluctuations. Consumers need to stay attuned to market trends to better plan their fuel expenses. Analyzing monthly movements is essential to forecast future fueling and transportation costs.

Price Variations of Fuels in September
According to a survey conducted by ValeCard, a company specialized in payment methods and mobility solutions, between August 1 and 26, it was found that gasoline had a reduction of 0.10% in its prices compared to the previous month. Diesel S-10 also experienced a decline, but by 0.24%. In contrast, ethanol registered an increase of 0.38% during the same period, which is a relevant point for the analysis of average fueling values. These figures contrast with the inflation preview for September, since the IPCA-15, released by IBGE, indicated an overall increase of 0.13% in prices.
Price Analysis of Fuels by Specialized Companies
Specifically comparing with the ‘Transport’ sector of the IPCA-15, which showed deflation of 0.08%, the increase in ethanol prices becomes even more pronounced. On the other hand, gasoline saw a price reduction practically aligned with the transport sector of the index, with a decrease of 0.10%, close to the decline of 0.08% of the IPCA-15. Diesel S-10, a fuel widely used by truck and bus fleets, had a more notable decrease of 0.24%. It is worth mentioning that, unlike IBGE, which works with samples, ValeCard’s survey is based on actual transactions made at fuel stations, reflecting the real average values paid by consumers.
Price Dynamics of Fuels in September
During the month of September, we observed slight changes in the real average values of fuels compared to previous months. This scenario was influenced by various circumstances, such as the stability of Brent crude oil, which remained approximately at US$ 82 per barrel. It is important to highlight that Petrobras has kept prices unchanged since July, without making further fiscal adjustments.
However, it is essential to emphasize that this outlook is subject to changes based on future demand variations, influenced by internal and external factors such as geopolitical events and fiscal adjustments,’ explained Brendon Rodrigues, Head of Innovation and Portfolio at ValeCard.
Average Fuel Prices in September
In September, the average prices of gasoline found at Brazilian stations were R$ 6.264 per liter, a slight decrease compared to August, which was R$ 6.270. For ethanol, the average price was R$ 4.222 per liter, about two cents more expensive than in August, which had a price of R$ 4.206. Diesel S-10 showed the largest drop among fuels, with an average price of R$ 6.234 in September, down from R$ 6.249 in August. Comparing with September of the previous year, gasoline increased from an average price of R$ 6.00 to R$ 6.26, a rise of R$ 0.26 per liter, equivalent to +4.29%. Ethanol saw an even sharper increase. From R$ 3.81 in September last year, the biofuel rose to R$ 4.22, a variation of 10.77%.
Comparison of Refueling Prices Between States
Regarding diesel S-10, there was a variation opposite to other fuels, dropping from an average price per liter of R$ 6.37 to R$ 6.23, a decrease of 2.26%. To illustrate, a popular car with a 55-liter tank would spend an average of R$ 330 to fill the tank with gasoline in September last year, while this year the cost would be around R$ 344.30, resulting in a difference of R$ 14.30 at the time of payment.
In the Federal District, gasoline was found at the lowest price in the country, according to ValeCard’s survey, being sold at an average of R$ 6.07 per liter. However, the situation is opposite in Acre, where consumers pay more, with the average price of gasoline being R$ 7.09 per liter, showing a difference of over R$ 1.
Variation and Average Costs of Fuels by State
Below are detailed price variations and average costs per liter of each fuel in different states:
* AC: R$ 7.098 in September, slight reduction compared to August which was R$ 7.124, variation of -0.37%.
* AL: R$ 6.672 in September, an increase of 0.52% compared to August which was R$ 6.637.
* AM: Registered R$ 6.833 in September, with a positive variation of 1.48% over August which was R$ 6.732.
* AP: Presented R$ 6.648 in September, with an increase of 2.17% compared to August which was R$ 6.504.
Ranking of States with the Lowest and Highest Prices of Ethanol
In September, São Paulo stood out with the lowest average price per liter of ethanol, R$ 3.99. Following, Mato Grosso registered R$ 4.011 and Goiás, R$ 4.162. On the other hand, Roraima was the state with the most expensive ethanol, with an average price of R$ 5.02 per liter, closely followed by Sergipe, whose average was R$ 4.99.
* AL: Ethanol varied to R$ 4.505 in September, an increase of 8.21% compared to August which was R$ 4.135.
* AM: Had R$ 4.878 in September, a small variation of 0.86% over August, which was R$ 4.836.
* BA: Registered a slight decline of -0.52%, down from R$ 4.597 in August to R$ 4.573 in September.
* CE: Experienced an increase of 3.68% with the price in September at R$ 4.246, compared to August which was R$ 4.090.
These data demonstrate how the dynamics of fuel prices varies substantially between different states in Brazil, directly affecting average refueling values and the costs faced by consumers.
