Launched By Two Brothers In Hawaii In 2018, Bottle With Note And Origamis Was Found By A Girl On Vacation In Florida, Almost Seven Years Later.

A simple childhood game turned into an international story. A bottle launched into the sea in Hawaii in 2018 was found almost seven years later by a girl on vacation in Florida. Inside, there was a note, two origami cranes, and a phone number.

The Discovery On A Florida Beach

The Hoisington family, on vacation in Bradenton Beach, Florida, experienced an unexpected moment.

Paris Hoisington reported that her daughter Josie spotted a bottle washing up on the sand. The girl acted quickly and grabbed it before the waves could take it back out to sea.

I thought it was a piece of trash,” said Josie. But upon closer inspection, she saw a piece of paper inside. “It’s a note in the bottle,” she thought. The story, told to local station 10 Tampa Bay, quickly piqued the family’s curiosity.

Inside the bottle, there was a handwritten note with an upbeat tone. It read: “Hello, everyone who found this. You will be happy to have found this. Why? Because you will recognize me by this number.” The message was accompanied by two paper cranes and a launch date: August 17, 2018.

Message With Unexpected Destination

The bottle had been launched into the sea by Payton Hollenbeck and her brother Elias, off the coast of Oahu, Hawaii. At the time, Payton was a teenager and had no idea where the object might end up.

Now 21, she was surprised to receive a text message from an unknown number.

The photo showed the note she had written years earlier. “I thought: ‘Oh, what is this about?’,” she recounted. Upon seeing the cranes, she had no doubts: “I knew it was mine.”

The surprise was received with joy. “It was super fun to see that our bottle ended up in Florida and that they reached out to us. We definitely did not expect that to happen,” Payton said.

Where The Idea Came From

The spontaneous gesture made in 2018 was inspired by a previous experience. Payton mentioned that she had found a bottle with a message years earlier while walking on the beach.

That moment marked her. “There was no phone number, but my brother and I thought: ‘Oh, we should make one ourselves, just for fun’.

The bottle was launched at Kaena Point on the island of Oahu. The intent was simply to create a fun keepsake. Over time, the object was forgotten. Until it was rediscovered on the other side of the country.

A New Perspective On The Ocean

Despite the excitement of reconnecting with the message, Payton reflected on the environmental impact of the gesture. “We don’t want to encourage others to do this because it’s trash and illegal!” she stated.

She said that at the time, she was unaware of the risks. “We were kids and just imitating something someone else had done before us.” Today, she is concerned about pollution in the oceans and advocates for environmental preservation.

The story, which began as a simple game, ended with an important lesson about connection, memory, and environmental responsibility.
