Imagine A Future Where Paraná Becomes A National Reference In Gas Distribution, Driving Large-Scale Economic Growth And Promoting Sustainability.
It may seem far off, but it is about to happen! The Paranaense Gas Company (Compagas) announced an ambitious plan that promises to completely change the energy infrastructure of the state. But what is behind this surprising decision and how will it impact the lives of the people in Paraná?
What Is Really Behind The Billion-Dollar Investment?
Compagas revealed a colossal investment of R$ 2.5 billion for the next 30 years, solidified in the new concession contract that recently came into effect in July 2024.
Of this amount, R$ 505 million will be invested in the first five years, primarily aimed at expanding the gas distribution network in Paraná.

This initial investment is just the tip of the iceberg in a project that promises to revolutionize the state’s infrastructure.
Expansion And Interiorization Of Compagas’ Gas Network
One of the main goals of this plan is to expand the piped distribution network by 122% by 2054, with the construction of over one thousand kilometers of new pipelines. This will allow piped gas supply to reach 22 new cities in Paraná, increasing the total to 34 municipalities. The economic impact will be significant, as these regions represent 70% of the state GDP.
Focus On Sustainability: The Role Of Biogas
The commitment to sustainability is another pillar of this investment. Compagas intends to include biogas in its supply portfolio, which represents a significant step towards decarbonization, especially for industries.
The CEO of Compagas, Rafael Lamastra Jr, highlighted the importance of this movement, stating that the company is determined to provide a renewable and efficient gas aligned with global sustainability trends.
The First Five Years: What To Expect From Compagas?
In the short term, the first five years of project execution will prioritize the expansion of natural gas and biogas supply in distribution networks.
The northern regions of Paraná and Lapa will be the main beneficiaries, with the forecast to connect over 34,000 new users and build 250 km of new distribution networks by 2029.
Expected Growth In Various Sectors
The projection from Compagas includes a significant increase in the user base and gas distribution in different sectors.
The expectation is for a 47% growth in the user base and expansion of the volume of natural gas distributed in segments such as residential (84%), industrial (34%), commercial (21%), and vehicular (16%).
This means that 342 new businesses, 87 industries, and six new CNG stations will be connected to the gas network by 2029.
In The Long Term: Impacts Beyond The Economy
The new concession contract from Compagas, valid until July 2054, projects not only the physical expansion of the gas network but also a substantial increase in service capacity and sustainability of operations.
Over the next 30 years, the plan includes connecting more than 60,000 new customers and ensuring that all 10 mesoregions of Paraná are served by the gas network.
This billion-dollar investment places Paraná at the forefront of Brazil’s energy infrastructure, and the use of biogas as a sustainable fuel highlights Compagas’ commitment to environmental issues.
With this initiative, the company not only drives economic growth but also contributes to a greener and more sustainable future for the state.
