GWM Invests in Brazil: Tarcísio de Freitas Celebrates Economic Advances with New Factory in São Paulo
The Chinese automotive giant GWM met last week with the Governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, and the Secretary of Economic Development, Jorge Lima, to discuss the direction of its operations in Brazil.
The meeting, which also included the presence of Parker Shi, President of GWM International, and Andy Zhang, President of GWM Brazil & Mexico, marked another significant step in the company’s expansion in the country.
The main topic discussed was the inauguration of GWM’s new factory in Iracemápolis, in the state of São Paulo, scheduled for the first half of 2025. The initiative represents a strategic investment to strengthen the automotive industry and expand the brand’s presence in the Brazilian market, focusing on hybrid and electric vehicles.

GWM’s Commitment to Local Development
During the meeting, Parker Shi emphasized the importance of São Paulo for the company’s global plans.
“São Paulo is a strategic location for our growth, and we are excited to invest in local economic development, creating jobs and promoting innovation,” stated the executive.
The GWM project includes the creation of 700 new job openings by 2025 and the encouragement of the development of local suppliers. The company also presented its plan to localize parts, aiming to further integrate regional suppliers into its production chain.
Focus on Sustainability and Green Mobility
GWM executives reaffirmed their commitment to sustainability, aligning their objectives with Brazil’s green mobility goals. The new factory will focus on the production of hybrid and electric vehicles, marking the definitive entry of the automaker into the clean and sustainable technology market.
Governor Tarcísio de Freitas highlighted the positive impact of this investment.
“Investment is opportunity, is jobs, is income generation. GWM is another automaker betting on the progress of our state. Our role is to create conditions to attract even more companies and establish an environment conducive to economic development,” stated Tarcísio.
Strategic Partnership with Tarcísio de Freitas
Another highlight was the discussion about strengthening the auto parts supplier chain around the Iracemápolis factory. The Governor presented his strategy to foster the creation of industrial hubs, ensuring that partner companies are located within a 50 km radius of the GWM plant.
The partnership with the State Government includes tax incentives and logistical support, facilitating the growth of companies that contribute to the local production chain and promote the development of innovative technologies.
Andy Zhang, President of GWM Brazil & Mexico, emphasized the potential of the Brazilian market and the strategic importance of the country in the company’s expansion in Latin America. According to him, GWM is committed to expanding its presence in the electric and hybrid vehicle segment, keeping up with the transformation of the global automotive sector.
Founded in China, GWM is currently the largest private automaker in the country and the fourth largest manufacturer of midsize pickups in the world. With a presence in over 60 countries, the company has led the pickup segment in China for 24 years and employs around 70,000 people worldwide.
The meeting with the Government of São Paulo is part of a series of efforts by GWM to strengthen ties with Brazil. In addition to expanding its operations in the country, the company seeks to develop strategic partnerships that promote sustainable mobility and drive innovation in the automotive sector.
With the inauguration of the factory in Iracemápolis and the strengthening of the partnership with the São Paulo government, GWM takes another step towards consolidating its position as a leader in the transition to sustainable vehicles in Brazil and Latin America.
