With an Investment of R$ 20.8 Million, the Government of São Paulo Delivered Three Refurbished Vessels to Strengthen the Coastal Crossings between Santos and Guarujá.
With an investment of R$ 20.8 million, the Government of São Paulo took another important step towards modernizing the waterway transport system on the São Paulo coast. Last Friday (2), three refurbished vessels — the ferry FB-18 and the boats LS-02 and LS-05 — were officially delivered and have already begun operating on the routes between Santos and Guarujá.
The action, coordinated by the Secretariat of Environment, Infrastructure and Logistics (Semil), is part of a broad state program for improvements in the sector, which foresees the requalification of 23 vessels by 2025.
Refurbished Vessels Enter Operation and Increase Crossing Capacity
The delivery ceremony took place at the shipyard of the Coastal Crossings in Guarujá and marked another stage in the process of restructuring the waterway system in the region.

China is designing a container ship with a thorium nuclear reactor that will operate for 40 years without refueling, and the 25,000-container giant from Jiangnan Shipyard will cross oceans without emitting carbon in an industry that burns 300 million tons of fuel per year.
The ferry FB-18, with a capacity to transport up to 32 vehicles and 244 passengers, is designated for the traditional route between Santos and Guarujá.
The boats LS-02 and LS-05, with capacities for 370 and 450 passengers, respectively, operate on the route between Praça da República and Vicente de Carvalho.
The investment in the vessels reflects the government’s commitment to improving regional mobility.
“The vessels have been completely refurbished. Internal installations, seating, and they have been fitted with new engines. These actions will provide more safety and comfort for drivers and pedestrians,” stated the Semil Secretary, Natália Resende.
Strategic Investment Ensures Efficiency and Comfort for the Population
The restructuring is part of a broader state program that, in addition to the vessels, also includes the execution of ten infrastructure works at crossing terminals by the end of 2025.
The total investment reaches approximately R$ 200 million, distributed among renovations, modernizations, and physical works, with the aim of increasing the system’s efficiency and ensuring a safer and more comfortable experience for users.
Since 2023, eight of the 17 vessels in the system have already undergone renovations. According to the government’s plan, all units will be modernized, reinforcing the commitment to the quality of public waterway transport.
Local Authorities Highlight Positive Impact on Users’ Daily Routines
During the ceremony, the acting mayor of Santos, Audrey Kleys, emphasized the importance of the investment for the population.
“Whether for work or leisure, the people of Santos always seek service efficiency. And the State Government has been working in this direction, with the delivery of three more refurbished vessels, offering greater efficiency to the crossings,” she highlighted.
The requalification of the vessels is seen as essential to ensure fluidity in daily commuting between the municipalities of Baixada Santista, especially during peak hours.
With increased safety and modern structure, the new vessels represent a significant improvement in the services provided to users.
