With an investment of R$20,8 million, the Government of São Paulo delivered three refurbished vessels to reinforce coastal crossings between Santos and Guarujá.
With an investment of R$20,8 million, the Government of São Paulo took another important step towards modernizing the water transport system on the coast of São Paulo. Last Friday (2), three vessels renovated — the ferry FB-18 and the boats LS-02 and LS-05 — which have already started operating on the routes between Santos and Guarujá.
The action, coordinated by the Secretariat of Environment, Infrastructure and Logistics (Semil), is part of a broad state program of improvements in the sector, which foresees the requalification of 23 vessels by 2025.
Refurbished vessels enter into operation and increase crossing capacity
The delivery ceremony took place at shipyard of the Coastal Crossings, in Guarujá, and marked another stage in the process of restructuring the region's water system.

The FB-18 ferry, with capacity to transport up to 32 vehicles and 244 pedestrians, was destined for the traditional route between Santos and Guarujá.
The boats LS-02 and LS-05, with capacity for 370 and 450 passengers, respectively, operate on the route between Praça da República and Vicente de Carvalho.
The investment in vessels reflects the government’s commitment to improving regional mobility.
“The vessels were completely refurbished. Internal facilities, seats, and new engines were also fitted. These actions will provide greater safety and comfort to drivers and pedestrians,” said Semil secretary Natália Resende.
Strategic investment guarantees efficiency and comfort to the population
The restructuring is part of a broader state program that, in addition to the vessels, also foresees the execution of ten infrastructure works at the crossing terminals by the end of 2025.
The total investment amounts to approximately R$200 million, distributed between renovations, modernizations and physical works, with the aim of increasing the efficiency of the system and ensuring a safer and more comfortable experience for users.
Since 2023, eight of the system's 17 vessels have undergone renovations. According to the government's plan, all units will be modernized, reinforcing the commitment to the quality of public waterway transportation.
Local authorities highlight positive impact on users' routines
During the ceremony, the acting mayor of Santos, Audrey Kleys, highlighted the relevance of the investment for the population.
“Whether for work or leisure, the population of Santos always wants efficient service. And the State Government has been working towards this, with the delivery of three more refurbished vessels, offering greater efficiency to crossings,” he highlighted.
The requalification of vessels is seen as essential to guarantee fluidity in daily travel between municipalities in Baixada Santista, especially during peak times.
With greater safety and a modern structure, the new vessels represent a leap in quality in the service provided to users.
