Petrobras orders diesel, says government

On a day of discussions on the readjustment of diesel, Minister Bento Albuquerque leaves a meeting with the presidents of Petrobras and Brazil saying that the state-owned company is sovereign to define questions about the increase

After determining, last week, the cancellation of the diesel increase that would be given by Petrobras, and that the government discarded as being an intervention in the company, President Bolsonaro met this Tuesday afternoon (16) to have explanations about the readjustment index (5,7%).
The agenda was divided into two parts: in the morning the practical part was discussed with truck drivers and some concrete measures in favor of the category were decided upon.

The first measure is that the BNDES will open a line with R$ 500 million available, with Banco do Brasil and Caixa Econômica Federal as the financing banks and later in all banks and cooperatives. The intention is to give a credit of up to R$ 30 thousand per self-employed truck driver.

Investment in highways was also announced, the government announced that R$ 2 billion will be released, of which R$ 900 million will be used for maintenance and completion of important highways.

The rise of diesel

Regarding the increase in diesel prices, at 16:30 pm today (16) the president met with ministers Onyx Lorenzoni (Casa Civil), Paulo Guedes (Economy), Tarcísio de Freitas (Infrastructure), Bento Albuquerque (Mines and Energy) . Also participating were the general director of the ANP, Décio Oddone, and the president of Petrobras, Castello Branco.

During a press conference after the meeting, the Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque, stated that Petrobras is responsible for defining the moment and value of the readjustment in the price of diesel oil.
The minister also added that if Petrobras decides to increase diesel prices, it will affect 54% of the price, since, according to him, the remaining 46% correspond to taxes.

The meeting served, according to the minister, for President Bolsonaro to be informed on how to reach a percentage increase in fuel prices, as this is a delicate subject and any result will generate a political dimension that deserves the president's attention.

He also pointed out that the readjustment calculation has to be done in a transparent way and that the readjustments cannot be daily and that he hopes that Petrobras will work to improve its practices.

Therefore, the minister declared at the end of the interview that nobody (including the presidents of the company and of Brazil) knows if the increase will exist, how much it will be and when it will occur and that Petrobras is sovereign to decide.
