Discover How the Global Energy Group Strengthens Minas Gerais with Strategic and Sustainable Investments
The global energy group Engie announced investments of R$ 260 million in Minas Gerais, reaffirming the company’s commitment to strengthening the Brazilian electricity sector. The project is part of the Graúna Transmission System, won in the Aneel Transmission Auction, held in September 2024.
The initiative was presented during the official mission of the Government of Minas Gerais in France, led by Governor Romeu Zema, and had the support of the Secretary of State for Economic Development (Sede) and Invest Minas, who mediate between companies and the State to enable new ventures.
This action symbolizes the strengthening of the partnership between the public sector and the private sector, highlighting Minas Gerais as a strategic hub in the energy transition and in attracting sustainable investments.

Engie and Minas Gerais: A Strategic Partnership for the Energy Future
Engie, considered one of the largest global electricity operators, has been expanding its presence in Brazil since 1996. Therefore, its portfolio includes generation, transmission, and commercialization of electricity, as well as natural gas transportation and innovative energy solutions.
The Graúna project represents another important step for the company in the reinforcement of the National Interconnected System (SIN), which connects the electrical grids of different regions of the country. With 222 kilometers of transmission lines, of which 58 kilometers are built in Minas Gerais, the enterprise aims to meet the demands of the Triângulo Mineiro and Alto Paranaíba more efficiently. In addition, it will contribute to the energy supply of Santa Catarina, Paraná, and Espírito Santo.
During the implementation phase, between 2026 and 2027, the project is expected to generate 511 temporary jobs, along with 40 permanent positions starting in 2027. This stimulates regional economic development and strengthens the local production chain.
Governor Romeu Zema emphasized that the state government is committed to ensuring the swift issuance of environmental licenses and providing all necessary support for the execution of the works. According to him, “Brazil needs clean and efficient energy, and Minas Gerais is ready to lead this movement.”
The Role of the Global Energy Group in the Sustainable Transition
Engie has established itself as a leader in the global energy transition, with the aim of accelerating the shift to a carbon-neutral economy. In Brazil, the company operates with an installed capacity of 13 gigawatts (GW), sourced from 100% renewable sources.
With over 2,800 kilometers of operational transmission lines and 4,500 kilometers of gas pipelines, the company has the largest natural gas transportation network in the country. This structure thus reinforces Engie’s commitment to diversifying the energy matrix, combining innovation, sustainability, and supply security.
In 2024, the company recorded revenue of R$ 12.3 billion, consolidating its leadership position in the sector. Additionally, it maintains 2,800 employees dedicated to developing projects that promote sustainable growth and reducing carbon emissions.
Investments That Strengthen Energy Security in Minas Gerais
The Secretary of State for Economic Development, Mila Corrêa da Costa, stated that the investment from Engie strengthens the energy security of Minas Gerais and expands the state’s potential in sustainable energies. According to her, this type of partnership creates new economic, social, and environmental opportunities, allowing Minas to advance towards a future of greater energy stability.
Similarly, the CEO of Invest Minas, Rodrigo Tavares, emphasized that the project represents a strategic advancement for the state’s energy infrastructure, helping to increase the reliability of the SIN and address the growing demand from Minas regions.
These advancements reinforce the vision of Minas Gerais as a hub of innovation and sustainability, capable of attracting international investments and consolidating its role on the national energy scene.
Minas Gerais as a Protagonist in the Brazilian Energy Transition
Over the past few decades, Minas Gerais has distinguished itself as a pioneering state in clean energy policies. From the first investments in hydropower in the 20th century to recent projects in solar, wind, and biogas energy, the state has demonstrated a continuous commitment to sustainable development.
In this context, the arrival of a global energy group like Engie emphasizes the importance of public policies aimed at technological innovation and modernization of electrical infrastructure. This partnership between private capital and government support creates a favorable environment for new investments and the generation of qualified jobs.
Additionally, the expansion of transmission networks will allow for greater integration between producing and consuming regions, ensuring efficiency in the use of natural resources and reducing losses in the energy system. In this way, the state strengthens its role and contributes to the building of a low-carbon economy in Brazil.
Clean Energy and the Sustainable Future of Minas Gerais
Engie’s investment in Minas Gerais transcends economic dimensions, as it represents an essential step in the pursuit of a sustainable energy model. As the world faces challenges related to climate change, the need to diversify the energy matrix becomes increasingly urgent.
In this sense, the global energy group plays a central role in uniting innovation, technology, and sustainability, contributing to the consolidation of a greener and more balanced future. With the support of the Minas government, the state positions itself as a reference in energy efficiency, security, and respect for the environment.
With each new project, Minas Gerais reinforces its vocation for clean energy and sustainable development, demonstrating that it is possible to grow economically without compromising environmental responsibility. The investment of R$ 260 million from Engie marks, therefore, a new chapter in the history of Brazilian energy, in which the balance between progress and sustainability is the true driver of transformation.
